Yeah, there's an NDA. Not sure how strict the forum admins here are when it comes to NDA stuff; some of the other forums I visit are okay withverygeneral stuff being posted as well as character names so people can get together in-game.

It has some appeal still, but I went back a few months ago and after using my box army to help a friend out with her Empyrean weapon, I couldn't bring myself to log in anymore. I still keep an eye on it, though, and can't wait to see what happens with the expansion.

They're actually working on an updated UI for FFXI (yeah, you read that right). Will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Based on the posts I've been seeing on NeoGAF, it seems like a good idea to wait a bit before making a character. Rollbacks, ho!

For this first phase, it was either being a legacy member (paying for three consecutive months during 1.0), being a part of the recent alpha test, or if you didn't fit into one of those two categories, be really lucky. I'm sure there'll be inviting more people with each phase, and the last phase...

As much as I'd love to, no way am I blowing a day off to play a beta that will probably be up and down all day. If people in the beta want to try to meet up on a specific server, I think I'm going to Tonberry.

I'd actually love to write for a site again if he wants to do something, that's why I asked.

Summoner's gonna be in at launch! Good interview with Yoshida. Glad this guy realizes how many people post dumb shit on the official forums. Draegan, when are you going to start FF14 Junkies? :b

Nah, I played using a controller because the keyboard controls were janky as hell. I just wanted to clarify that the movement controls weren't strictly numpad only.

FFXI also had a "compact" layout that allowed you to use WASD.

Even if it ran in full-screen I don't think the game supports SLI yet. It's also heavily CPU-bound.

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

I don't think they know when exactly it will be released yet, since they probably don't want to ship another fuck up. There is an open beta phase scheduled, though, so you can try it then. There's going to be three closed beta phases preceding it, each of varying lengths with a debug period in...

Hopefully I'm allowed to post this bit from the beta boards!:

Yeah. I don't remember when they became vogue exactly, but people figured out that stuff like Sleep/Sleep II/Dispel generated a lot of enmity. Combined with RDM's spells/abilities like Stoneskin, Refresh, Phalanx, Cure line, and Convert, their access to -Physical Damage Taken and -Magic Damage...

I'm sad that they nerfed Red Mage tanking though, and now Rune Fencer basically has a lot of the stuff that RDM tanks did back then.

Transcription from the Live Letter from the Producertoday. Notorious Monsters being tied primarily to the dynamic event system makes me a bit sad. So many (at times painful) memories of camping NMs in FFXI.

From aninterview with Yoshida: Edit: If you're in the beta, the client is available for download now.

This article at the Penny Arcade Reportpoints out some of the UI issues with 2.0. Considering how long I played XI, I'm sure I can deal with crappy quest turn-ins and a not entirely great UI in general, and perhaps things like that will even be fixed by the time the game releases, but the...

Pretty sure that as a legacy member you didn't have to apply for beta unless you wanted to beta test the PS3 version.

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

It also didn't help that FFXIV 1.0 had to hit the server for some really dumb stuff, which made it feel even less responsive. Can't believe they were going to try to get that junk working on a PS3, heh. I decided to remote into my home machine and run the benchmark, got a 7116 on max settings...

I'm okay with them exploiting my nostalgia as long the game is fun to play. I still remember being jealous of one of my FFXI linkshell members for getting access to the beta for the original version of the game early on, and him telling me I had no reason to be jealous (actually, he might've...

While FFXI wasn't my first MMO, it was the one I've played the longest and connected with in a way that you see people on these boards talking about OG EverQuest. From that perspective, these videos and articles got me pretty excited, but I'm trying to remain cautiously optimistic. Can't wait...

    Rift: Planes of Telara

Hearing that people suck at Empyrean Core makes me sad; that was probably my favorite dungeon of all of the ones added to SL. I can't imagine how your group would've fared against the doctor. :b
