    Smartphones

My galaxy nexus, which doesn't even use gorilla glass, is almost two years old and the only scratches on its screen all happened from one day at the beach. Sand should be the only thing you fear with a modern smartphone

    Tennis

Based on the play in the second semifinal, Nadal is going to crush whoever he faces in the final. I wouldn't be surprised if it's straight sets.

Wow Djokovic has an easy smash and then overbalances into the net before the ball bounces twice and loses the point. Break point to even things up in the fifth!

    Windows 8

I don't mind windows 8 too much, but having to enter the full screen start menu just to open anything that's not pinned to the taskbar is fairly annoying. When I have three spreadsheets open and I'm really focused the last thing I want is to be thrust into the tilt interface and lose sight of...

    The Back to School Thread

For the original poster: Materials science is a great field. I do a lot of chemical / materials engineering work on biomaterials, and there is a lot of interesting work being done. It is a very employable degree because you will have the background to enter numerous big industries for...

    Smartphones

My wife and I both have the Verizon official car chargers and her Nexus won't charge on mine unless she holds it in place. It's definitely looser than it used to be for my phone as well, though fortunately it charges without issue. Her charger holds a lot more firmly in both our phones.

GoT - Is Over, Post Your Drogon Sightings

They did find the dragonglass in season 2 of the show, which makes it all the more strange that they skipped that part of Sam's character development. I'm assuming he will slay an Other at some point in order to show the power of the obsidian, but it will lose some of its impact if he doesn't do...

My brother sent this to me - not sure if this has been posted here before. I now have no choice but to replay FF7.

GoT - Is Over, Post Your Drogon Sightings

Thoroughly enjoyed the episode as well. I feel like when they ignore or gloss over things from the book I can understand why about 90% of the time. The scene with Catelyn and Robbwife definitely could have been removed. I'd rather they spent more time with the Nights' Watch on the scene with the...

    Laptop Computers

I recently bought an x230T and I have no real complaints. I wouldn't mind a higher resolution, but that issue only rears its head when I have multiple excel or word windows open. a 12.5 inch screen is small enough that even with higher resolution, text size would become the limiting factor...

NBA 2012-13 Season Thread - Crown The Heat!

X rays tend not to show ligament damage, which is usually more debilitating and longer to heal than a break. I had a severe ankle sprain about a year and a half ago and I still have limited flexibility and pain.

Science!! Fucking magnets, how do they work?

You need a very good reason to get approved for any kind of research on non human primates. I work on lab rats, and we are currently working on approval for a study on some pigs and that alone resulted in a lot more red tape and an order of magnitude more regulations. Basically, IACUC (one of...

    Age of Empires II HD

I remember being fascinated with the scimitar-throwing camel riders that were the Saracens' special unit. They were pretty terrible in general but winning a game with a swam of those units was truly satisfying. Nothing beats the Vikings though. Self-healing berserkers, infantry melee bonus...

    Post Your Pet

Odin is the cat and Thor is the dog. Pictures of Odin are as a kitten of about 5 months then around a year and a half. Pictures of Thor are as a 4 month puppy and at 1 year. Now Odin is about 2 years old and Thor is a year and a half.

    Windows 8

It probably wasn't intuitive at first to hit the "start" button to turn off the computer. People will come around. Or Microsoft will change it. Either way, once you learn where it is, problem solved. It's really not a big deal compared to some of the other issues the new interface has.

    Anchorman: The Legend Continues

That was probably the reason Ferrell wanted to bring it back in the first place. I remember in the movie they even make fun of the fact that the aliens (?) move so slowly. Danny McBride was the funniest part of the movie though.

    Engagement rings

I bought my wife's ring atwww.uniondiamond.com Did a little recon first to find out what cut and what types of settings she liked, then just perused their inventory and picked one that fit some of my arbitrary criteria (close to colorless, no visible inclusions, close to a 1:1 square face...

    Tablets

So I received my Lenovo x230 tablet earlier in the week. Quick rundown of the specs: core i5-3320M, 2.6GHz, 8gb RAM, 320gb 7200rpm HDD, 12.5'' convertible touchscreen with Wacom digitizer. The first thing that surprised me was that it uses a matte display - I've only ever used slicker...

    Tablets

I ordered a Lenovo Thinkpad X230t (convertible tablet / laptop with a Wacom digitizer). I want to consolidate my devices that I use around the house and for work, since it was a bit irritating to have a laptop and desktop for looking at data, a tablet for quick browsing and referencing, a lab...

    Smartphones

I've heard if you have google currents set the sync in the background it'll kill your battery life. Additionally, the facebook app is terrible for battery (or was a couple months ago before I uninstalled it). I'm running CM10.1 on stock kernel and my battery life is pretty normal. I only...

    HDTVs

The TV is almost 2 years old. The new ac adapter didn't fix the problem so I am debating between having a professional look at it and taking it apart myself to see if anything is obviously wrong. The TV still won't power on at all. Should have just gotten a square trade warranty!

    HDTVs

I have a television issue that perhaps someone here can diagnose rather than starting a new thread. I had just hooked up an HDMI switcher, and about 30 mins after doing so, my TV turned of on its own. I turned it back on and the same thing happened a sorry while later. I unplugged the HDMI...

    What do you do?

It's the person who processes body tissue samples and puts them onto slides. Usually that means they receive a tissue sample from a doctor or scientist, then it has to be fixed (preserved), embedded in wax or some other material, sectioned into thin slices, stained so you can see the cellular...

    Desktop Computers

Gracias everyone. Also hi Alkorin (Pescador from TMO). Yeah I was thinking about a cheapo video card but I honestly can't imagine her even stressing the intel 4000 as long as it can stream HD video, run Plex, and do Splashtop.

    Desktop Computers

My wife wants me to build her a desktop computer, so I'm thinking I may do so for Christmas. I'm wondering how the Intel 4000 integrated graphics are on the Ivy Bridge chips. She doesn't game except for random stuff like World of Goo. Primarily it would be used for work, meaning Excel / Word /...
