If you buy on Newegg, make sure you check combo deals. I was going to get a B350 Tomahawk, but saw a combo deal for a ASRock Killer X370 board with the PSU I was getting. 18 bucks off a $145 board that also had a $10 rebate = $117 for a X370 board. Also picked out my RAM. RAM cost me...

I didn't realize the 1600 came with a spire. Thought it came with a worse cooler. I guess I'll just make a judgement call on any sales I see in the next few weeks as to which Ryzen I get. Really wish I had done that 1700 $250 sale. Several coins are desktop minable: Ethereum, Monero...

A lot of sticks won't run at their rated speeds because AM4 mobo manufacturers had to rush a release. Supposedly a May microcode update will resolve this. There aren't many 16 gig sticks on QVL lists from what I can see, either. Samsung B-Die seems to work the best but all the sticks that I...

I'm also deciding between a 1600X + cooler vs 1700 w/ spire. AMD vs Intel right now is a no-brainer because I use my computer as a computer and not a console. Only reason I didn't get a 1700something by now is because I still can't figure out what RAM to buy. 32 gigs is required for me and...

EQ2002: The Better Planes of Power - PoP-Locked, Single Box EQ

That was from an Al'Kabor log, so it's PoP era. I was able to determine that the PvP spell scaling reduced spells down to 62% at higher levels in that era, so that's already mitigated down to 62% of normal. Emus can easily modify extreme edge case imbalances of course.

EQ2002: The Better Planes of Power - PoP-Locked, Single Box EQ

We have at least 3 raiding guilds last I checked. Alt key sticking and environmental sound volume will be fixed in a future client release. Secrets and Haynar have done some amazing client hacks but it's not ready for users yet. HotKeyNet can be used until then to avoid key sticking. Some of...

EQ2002: The Better Planes of Power - PoP-Locked, Single Box EQ

What a respectful question. I'll entertain you however. TAKP will be around for years to come. It doesn't matter how many people play it. Our population is still kind of low because the team made some bad decisions. Notably: open sourcing it without a release delay and instituting a 3 box...

EQ2002: The Better Planes of Power - PoP-Locked, Single Box EQ

Regarding database accuracy: Project EQ has seen significant improvements of late because they've been importing TAKP data. Remember that half of TAKP's staff is also PEQ staff, so sharing content between projects is frictionless. I'm in charge of TAKP's NPC stats and I haven't been involved...

Newegg has the k70 for $85 right now. Slickdeals forum gives it 5 thumbs, so I guess that's a sale. Will grab one of those myself unless I see something more interesting.

Someone should make a better alternative to EQ EMU

They are instanced on Progression servers only. You walk up to a kedge fish-man NPC in an adjacent zone and talk to him to make an instance, which he teleports you into. So there are kedge-men all over the place on TLPs. More specifically, what they did to raid bosses to make them not fall...

Someone should make a better alternative to EQ EMU

I can offer you some finer details. (these are just quickly off the top of my head) * AC was hardcapped until PoP, so it's softcapped on TLPs. The overcap returns are also more forgiving than PoP era returns. Certain loot like Vulak and AoW loot was given ridiculous amounts of AC with the...

Someone should make a better alternative to EQ EMU

Yeah, nothing. Except I told them how to fix slows which were using a completely wrong function. I told them how to fix partial spell resists. I told them how to calculate NPC double attack and dual wield rates. I outlined most of EQ's hate mechanics including how to calculate hate per spell...

Someone should make a better alternative to EQ EMU

Wait, am I dev or do I not have anything to do with it? Make up your mind. There is worthless criticism and there is constructive criticism. Perhaps you should learn the difference. "You're working too slow!" is not helpful. You clearly underestimate the work involved. EverQuest is...

Someone should make a better alternative to EQ EMU

Your thread is akin to whining that the pyramid at Giza isn't being built fast enough when 100 people are working on it. Pitch in or be quiet. Nobody gets paid for this. I saw the state of PEQ after AK went down and started helping out. It doesn't take technical ability to do database work...

Someone should make a better alternative to EQ EMU

Another thing I would like to point out: it's not a simple matter to just 'fix' things in the main EQ Emu branch because so many custom servers derive from it. A lot of mechanics were simply implemented incorrectly and the server databases were developed with these inaccuracies in mind. On top...

Someone should make a better alternative to EQ EMU

I can respond to some of this, since I develop for one of the servers. 1) Project 1999 and TAKP are both HEAVILY modified forks of EQEmu to the point that even merely copying NPC data over back to PEQ is difficult because of all the new fields. Just about everything was modified in some way...

    The Al`kabor Project (EQMac) - PoP 1/5

It wasn't from scratch. They copied our database which we populated using custom written tools and taking multiple snapshots of AK zones for the vast majority of NPCs in every zone up through PoP. We then gave these NPCs placeholder stats and loottables imported from Project EQ and Magelo...

The Mac client is the real client used to play on Sony's defunct server. The PC client could be considered a hack job of sorts, but the complaints people have about that client are mostly because of its age and not because it's hacked together. Our PC client is pre-Direct X 9 and was current...

He sent it to me. Thanks for this. I got logs from a bunch of users recently so I'm pretty happy with my logs situation now. (more is always better however) Only thing I'm really missing is a good Ring of Fire (Acrylia Caverns) log.

    The Al`kabor Project (EQMac) - PoP 1/5

I agree. Secrets doesn't do a lot of GM work though; he mostly does technical work that very few people are capable of. However it's less of an issue here because we have mandatory rotations if and when guilds start to become uncivil. (not enforced currently)

Not all of us. I've only played the emu for a week 14 months ago. There's just too much work to do. Several of the devs don't play much or at all, really. A few of us need to eat the dog food though, to find and fix QoL issues.

    Project 2002 - The Age of Al'Kabor - release date 3/21/15

The reason why they can even push a semi-functional Velious is because TAKP staff (Cavedude) created automated tools to mass import data from AK. The tool generated SQL data from showEQ which created most of the NPCs in the game and set their locations. They were then given error riddled...

    Project 2002 - The Age of Al'Kabor - release date 3/21/15

I in fact proposed a merger not long ago. It was flatly rejected and ridiculed. Granted it's not a popular idea on our side of the fence either for numerous reasons, not the least of which are that one server has had Velious equipment available for months. If they really cared about the...

The differences aren't 'petty'. I'll let you all try and guess which one of them sent me a hate filled (one of several he sent to Haynar and myself) PM to me which included these lines: The public has no idea of the history between us, because if I outlined it all in a massive post, what...

I most certainly did not. I merely pointed out that you were TOLD a lie. If unknowingly repeating a mistruth officially makes one a 'liar' than every non-mute human being on earth qualifies. Responding to a claim that the difference between p2002 and TAKP is that TAKP is somehow corrupt and...

    Project 2002 - The Age of Al'Kabor - release date 3/21/15

That's a lie. Armed leaders also wanted a rotation. Destiny wasn't #2 at the time, Starvald was. Starvald beat Armed to kills, which angered Armed who started poopsocking in revenge, hence the desire for rotations. The community as a whole voted for rotations-- it was a public vote. It...

I've thanked them before, but seeing them post again here just made me want to repeat it. Nester's log was INVALUABLE for my database work on TAKP, (it's a very good log) and Fifey letting me use his account for VP really helped tremendously in getting that zone right. Project EQ is...

EQ F2P- Returning Players & Current Content

The launcher seems to have a bug in it. I've been editing eqhost.txt and changing Host=lvseq-live-l01.everquest.com:15900 to Host=lvseq-test-l01.everquest.com:15900 and the reverse. Curse this tiny SSD or I'd just copy the entire folder.

As I said, we disabled some items to prevent raid drops from becoming worthless. People are wearing their planar armor and they'll be wearing their kunark sets and they'll be wearing their ToV armor. Melee are currently using yaks and bloodfires and not the Kithicor weapons. The Kunark...

We do disable some items. Kithicor Dark Elf drops were disabled for example. The crafted armor added in late Luclin were disabled. I'm disabling a few of the revamped Chardok loot as I do those tables. I certainly don't want weapons as good or better than VP ones dropping from Chardok named...

    The Al`kabor Project (EQMac) - PoP 1/5

Haynar put in new melee mitigation code months ago. I'm still collecting data for a final revamp, but because it takes multi-hour logs for each data point, it's taking months. (I've generated about 1 gig of logs so far) Harnar's code is actually mitigating too much, but the hit rate of NPCs...

    The Al`kabor Project (EQMac) - PoP 1/5

Haynar keeps tinkering with things, so I'm hopeful he'll figure out how to make the client more stable. He recommends using a wired connection (as opposed to wi-fi) and ensuring the connection is uncongested. Apparently even p99 has desyncs in zones with 200+ players in them and wired...

    The Al`kabor Project (EQMac) - PoP 1/5

We're aware desyncs can happen, but they tend to be rare and happen most often in large raids as far as we know. The problem we have is that nobody reports them. We can only assume that it's a rare phenomena when people don't bring the issue up. Reports are important to distinguish between...

    The Al`kabor Project (EQMac) - PoP 1/5

You'll have to be more specific regarding 'shit that doesn't work'. People are playing and raiding, and there are workarounds to particular issues. I used to 8 box raids on Al'Kabor using the PC client, including two clients on a netbook. Stuff like no target rings and no mouse zoom are...

    The Al`kabor Project (EQMac) - PoP 1/5

Policy wise the biggest difference is that TAKP has staff mandated rotations for the major raid targets. (just nag/vox right now, not planes trash) We have a 3 account limit, but that may be relaxed in the future if people make enough noise about it. (don't hate me for saying this Speedz)...
