SOE Becomes Daybreak / Russian shutdown

But isn't that quote really the point? In the last five years, the market has introduced a multitude of models to support the multitude of needs/desires of the marketplace. Some of these models have actually saved games that people on these forums seem to cherish (SWTOR, EQ, Secret World, etc)...

And yet, it's the only way any EverQuest IP is allowed to survive in an official operating capacity.

How much they invested to this point is completely irrelevant. The only thing that matters is revenue generated verses expenditure along with where they are trending. I would be willing to bet EQ has been trending down for alongwhile (with a little bump from F2P). If that's the case you have to...

SOE Becomes Daybreak / Russian shutdown

If Sony were a good company, which they are not, they would replicate what Square-Enix did with FFXIV. They would run parallel storylines in EQ and EQ2, that culminate with an "end of the world" type event. This would be done to launch a sort of EverQuest reborn, which would effectively be your...

I don't know... this seemed worse. *EDIT* Dammit... beaten to the punch. Still worth reinforcing how bad SOE's marketing department is.

No doubt, I'm sure there are a handful of talented people there. Every company has them. They're the ones who are either afraid to move on because they're overly invested in the company or those that hold on to that faint glimmer of hope that "the next one" will turn it around. But so what? The...

Wrong. SOE is devoid of enough talent to create a successful game. It's the equivalent of a listing ship, always on the verge of sinking. I'm always intrigued on how people can still believe, after years and years of failure, that SoE is capable of creating "an awesome game." Even if they...

Exactly this. EverQuest Next is nothing but a concept car you see during an auto show. It's never going to be released, it's just an opportunity for some designers to waste some money and pontificate on some future concept/ideas while exciting the audience of "what could be". The name even...

SOE Becomes Daybreak / Russian shutdown

The difference is marketing. Had SOE released Vex Thal three months later under Patch 4.5: Attack on Vex Thal, no one would have care. Instead, they claimed it was complete and in game. This is something Blizzard perfected, the staggered release of an expansion under the guise of additional content.

Jeez... spend two days at a trade show and miss out on the greatest news in years. Georgeson is out! Butler is out! All I'd like to see is Smed get the boot for a complete trifecta. This is some of the best news for the MMO genre in years. Feel bad for all the front line cuts though. It...

    The Elder Scrolls Online

B2P is only delaying the inevitable. The console launch I'm sure will be moderately successful based on the name alone. We'll all see a nice little blurb claiming strong sales and how B2P was such a grand success. Maybe we'll even see that elusive 1 million unit sold press release or something...

    The Elder Scrolls Online

Nothing screams success like selling a lot of copies of a really crappy game under a world-class IP. Too bad the long-term success of any MMO is tied to your players continuing to play said crappy game. Of course if they were doing that on the PC side they wouldn't be dropping that sub, would they?

Some new information on the expansion and future updates from a new interview with FFXIV producer Yoshi-P that was posted on Reddit. Biggest takeaways are that the current patch cycle will continue and future expansions will come even sooner (approx every 15-18 months).

In addition to the above, the content released for FFXIV over the last year has been staggering. It's the only MMO that does a solid job justifying its subscription cost. They have a full-fledged expansion coming in the Spring, with two more solid content patch en-route before release. Well...

I sincerely hope Smed, Georgeson, and anyone else in senior leadership has their resumes ready because they are losing their jobs. Their political savviness under SOE's bureaucratic and bloated leadership allowed their incompetence to survive way to long. If the company survives, an investment...

This is giving me flashbacks to when McQuaid would talk about things like regional markets and meaningful travel. I fell into the same boat. I played this at launch, liked a lot of what Square-Enix was doing, but I didn't subscribe past the first 30 days. It just felt like the same ol', same ol'. I gave the game another go after the ESO and Wildstar launch extravaganzas around June and have been...

In addition to the above, the first 15 level are excruciatingly boring.
