No, youre not supposed to get any of your items etc at the start of Bg2, only your stats and the golden pantaloons if you had them at the end of bg1. They even say something like that at the start "they grabbed all our stuff, and probably sold our magical shit"

Plenty of civilization in FO2 too, in terms of writing and humor New Vegas was far more in line of FO2 than FO3. Also New Vegas had better DLCs

I think most people, myself included, agree BG2 is superior to BG1 even though we played BG1 first, since it is basically BG1 but bigger, same type of graphics but crisper, same ruleset but crisper etc.

Technically wasteland 2 was shock full of references and throwbacks to wasteland 1, the whole story was built on the original main campaign. it's like playing baldur's gate 2 without playing baldur's gate 1. but wasteland 1 is really dated and an absolute pain to play through, so in this case I...

Yes, celestial fury is the katana to use for most of BG2 its a fairly difficult fight to get it though. After celestial comes Hindos doom. But really, katanas arent part of the top tier weapons and rare to find. Overall weapon+shield style loses in effectiveness at higher levels and I think most...

Pillars of Eternity, Obsidian's new CRPG in the vein of Baldur's Gate

I would say Temple of Elemental Evil is OK, but not particularly great. Just felt sorta limited and stale, even though it had all the basics of a BG-style game. Should be at the bottom of your list.

In terms of gameplay mechanics, sure it's a step above pillars 1. The DLCs connect nicely into the story, the myriads of different play modes, challenges, the Mega bosses, the playing around and stretching the game mechanics to their limits in different fights is very nice, don't get me wrong...

Planescape, it's not great from a mechanics and graphics perspective, although also similar to the BGs etc. but the storyline and writing is just in a different league compared to all the other games. I think only Pillars 1 has a similar philosophically angled type of storyline

solid list. I think most people view tides of numenera as kind of meh, and pillars 2 as a step down from pillars 1. I suggest going Icewind Dale 1 and 2 after BG1 and 2, as those are the most similar on that list. I would say the Divinity games are a step up compared to Neverwinter nights...
