I would not recommend playing unpatched modern console games. There is a crazy rush to create the master disc with data that is certified by Microsoft or Sony. Often they get that certification and keep that build on there despite having 3 months (or more) of progress made after the disc version...

They probably have stats that show how often the blu-ray drive is used. I've never used mine, personally. Data drives a lot of these decisions, I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't worth the $20 extra dollars. (or whatever the cost was)
