My current to do list.. before it gets any bigger: One Reaper Bones Dwarf I've been meaning to paint, mostly for more practice. Two Hero Forge Mini's I want to do. Finally, I bought a Warhammer 40k Space Marines Intercessors starter kit. Came with 3 guys, 6 paints and a brush! Brush is...

I love that moon staff that's awesome. Speaking of fun mini's, I'm gonna get some stuff from crooked dice I think. I saw someone painting Slythe from Thundercats. Then again might still do that LotR set that Sorastro did. Or a Storm Trooper. Or a Space Marine. Fuck this hobby is kinda crazy.

Believe it or not, I'm getting better at painting. I'm a bit impatient still but I'm getting better. Here is number 7! Female Ranger. She even has pupils in her eyes.

Yup I think I was over thinning. Here is a WIP of my newest one. I re-did just her face (and that brown sash) in lightly thinned Vallejo Flat Brown and lightly thinned Reaper Fair Skin. You can see how much smoother her face looks in this while her armor is all blotchy and runny:

Ok Im convinced it's the consistency of my paint. I'm actually thinking it's too thinned. I'm gonna try to recreate what Sorastro is doing in these videos. He does a good job of showing exactly what he's up to. Looks like Vallejo paint and a bit thinned. I've been using mostly Reaper MSP...

I went and tried some specific flesh shade, thinned it out more than usual and I think it helped with my latest attempt. We will see!

    Miniature Painting

Ok well, number 6 is done! She looks good at a distance but up close it's clumpy or a bit dry. I'm struggling with smooth, creamy textures. Both skin tones and clothes. Maybe thinner paint? Maybe a glaze at the end? In any case here she is!

    Miniature Painting

My painting table is coming along nicely. I'm working on #6 but she needs some work hah. Her hair looks great, but I have trouble still with skin and making it smooth and even. Wet Palette is here! Also new brushes, and a Windsor Newton is on the way.

That makes a lot of sense. Ok so I'll use my old set and the nice new ones, just for different purposes. I found these videos helpful also:

Ok got my Bomb Wick Igniter brushes! They're so much better than the ones I had. I can see now how people can do an eyeball with this. It's nice and sharp. Anyone have a good primer on what kinds of brushes should be used for what? Meaning fine detail, base coating, mixing paint, dry...

    Miniature Painting

Good video. I like seeing how people actually paint to get those results.. I should probably look up some brush stroke techniques soon. For now I'll wait for my new brushes and wet palette that should be here soon. I'm starting to realize my brushes are really not great. Good enough for...

    Miniature Painting

9-10 or 10:30 pm is my time to set aside for this! I also work for myself so I can steal some time here and there. Airbrush... I just love the colored primer coats and honestly it looks fun. But really it would be overkill for me at this stage. Once I get say 10 done and I'm still going...

    Miniature Painting

Eh mine are not good enough to seal yet lol. I was considering an airbrush though... I'll wait till I have a few more under my belt.

Funny you posted that list. I made one for myself on the basic process i'm going to try to use until I can get better.

EDIT: WOW that looks amazing HY. How did you get that skin tone like that? That looks ridiculously good. EDIT 2: And how big is that mini? He looks awesome. I'm gonna forge ahead and just paint her. Flaws and all. I'll see what happens. If it's a disaster I'll know to strip next time...

You guys can totally do it. Painting at least. Set it up, carve out an hour before bed. That's what I do in any event. I own a business, 2 kids, wife, new puppy. Doable! I took a big step back last night haha. I have this a Reaper Mini of a female elf ranger. Looks kinda lame in it's out...

    Miniature Painting

Hah well yeah, totally seeing the costs are high for this hobby! I mean my tentative plan now is to go check out the local games and see what's out there. I see one shop has 40k games at 1850 points. I only vaguely understand what that means. Point's = army size kinda? They also have DnD...

Yup I'm having the same experience with these brushes. I'll grab the Monument and see if I notice the difference. I got some brush cleaner the other day. I haven't used it yet though. Not sure how, I'll youtube it tonight. So brushes plus wet palette ordered today! I'll have to plot out...

    Miniature Painting

Awesome very helpful again. I'm getting a wet palette right now. I feel like that will really be used constantly as I paint. I'm gonna dick around with the brushes I have now. I bought this set: Bunch of options I just need to use them more and see what works best with what. Oh and the...

    Miniature Painting

Thank you and yes! I definitely noticed the brush strokes and bleeding. I agree I'll try and do one more touch up round. I'm also thinking about making one of those wet palettes. I think that would help me since I'm kinda back and forth on colors and they tend to dry out quickly on me...

Ok so here is #3 of 3 from the Reaper Bones Learn to Paint kit. Super helpful for me. I deliberately stopped myself from over obsessing with the flaws. I want to get some reps in. I don't want to burn out lol. So I've now gotten these three done! And now I'll decide what is next on the list...

    Miniature Painting

Nice thanks man. I was actually going to look for more things just like that. I'm almost done with my 3rd mini from the Reaper starter set. I'll post images later. But I like how they walk you through it. Give you the paints, show you the finished mini after painting. It's just helpful for...

Wow that looks tremendous. Love that. I may have to find that model to add to my collection.

    Miniature Painting

Thanks man and yeah it did come out better than expected. This is from the Reaper Learn to Paint Set . I love it. They give you 3 minis, a bunch of paints, 2 brushes, a book with step by step instructions, which colors to use, and all the rest. So for the chainmail I believe it was a pure...

    Miniature Painting

Ok my second mini is complete. Not amazing but better than the first! I feel like I got a good amount of experience with this one. I screwed up a lot but I did 2 base coats, a wash, and then dry brushing. I may have dinged level 2.

    Miniature Painting

I got myself an inexpensive desk, a magnifying lamp, some more paints, and a $20.00 paint brush set. I'm ready to rock.

    Miniature Painting

That's awesome. I dig the base too. I found this video and it made me want to paint one of these guys. The result he got was exactly what I would love to achieve and he did it in under 20 minutes. I have no illusions mine will look that good but it's something to work towards. I love that...

    Miniature Painting

I have officially begun. It's not much but I did a wash on my skeleton. This had zero details beforehand. Now you can clearly see the bones and eye sockets. It's a start. Edit, and after phase 1, he's kinda base coated!
  33. Dashel

    Miniature Painting

That was a really good video. I'm also watching some Miniac ones which I like a lot. I'll probably start tonight on a simple skeleton that came with the beginner paint set. Then move on to more figures and get some reps in.

Ok let's put it this way, I'm looking for D&D style fantasy figures and not particular on who makes them or what game it's from: Male Human Fighter with a sword and shield - Chain armor ideally Male Dwarven Cleric with a hammer and shield Female Mage/Wizard/Sorc - Elf or possibly human Female...

    Miniature Painting

So I got the paint set which came with a Reaper Bones guy. Compared to the WizKids Deep Cuts figures, I like the Reaper Bones better. A little bigger and now I want more of them. I'm also seeing these are called "Cheap Miniatures". What would be considered expensive? Here are 3 I have...

    Miniature Painting

Awesome tips thank you! I've got paint coming and brushes. I'll start with that set and learn as I go. All but one of my minis are plastic. I'll have to see if I like them after I paint them. I was hesitant at first but I'm understanding now why they are so common. I like the weight of...

    Miniature Painting

Well one of you is responsible for me going on a mini buying binge. I think it was Hateyou, in some other random thread. I used to go to work with my Dad in Princeton as a kid. Right by the university there was a shop that sold lead/metal minis. I loved going there so much. So now I'm...

GoT - Is Over, Post Your Drogon Sightings

Were they going for Thanos style villain in Danny with this? I'm thinking about the justification she gives about mercy for future generations. Just random slaughter, turning them to ash.
