Hmm the pure realistic model I used was Ares I think. I'm usually doing fantasy stuff so I'll mix in a weeby model as well for my stuff. Just looking at my dir I guess I mainly use Chillout, Meina, there's one here called Henmixreal but I don't remember using it. I think I might have...

I'm no expert on carbon, but I know F1 parts are put together with a weave that is strong from a particular direction. Suspension parts for instance don't do well with hits from the side as they are strong in the vertical direction. I wonder if it was extruded vertically or if it was a joined...

Time Travel: What would you do?

I've read scifi novels where they stack a few miles thick of ice on the front, and make the ship shaped like a needle, but It will be fascinating to see how it all shakes out in the future. There's math you can do to predict the energy released by striking hydrogen atoms and such. Lots of...

So I have this old serverish box that hadn't been on for years. I think I built it in the mid 2000's and it had a 4 drive raid5 array with 250 gig ide drives. Last week I decided to get it over onto one of my newer drives with snapraid for parity. The C drive was failing and one of the raid...

I'm thinking a USB tuner is going to be needed. The slow channel changes on the tv's built in tuner are super annoying. I'm thinking I can do a usb tuner with nextPVR plugged into Kodi, then an addon for discovery +. Maybe with that pi-like I linked earlier running debian or something. Then...

It is crazy to run a company from cali. Cost of living, taxes, insane laws. Game companies also are so butts-in-chairs focused and over managed. The one upside is that all the good people are driven into going indie, so lots of good indie games :emoji_shrug:

It worked! Thanks so much everyone for all the suggestions. The 30 dollar antenna I got is cheap and flimsy and way smaller than I expected, but I slapped it up on the same pole my wireless internet is on, and just kind of left it hanging there halfass pointed in the right direction, and...

The ship building is kinda lame, but I expected the snap together piece way. They have alot of environ artists trained on that as they've built maps snap-together style since morrowind. I do love building mine block by block in Empyrion. However the insides will look way nicer because an...

TT was great this year. I really thought they were going to go without any losses but a spanish rider died in one of the supertwin races. More records would have tumbled but Hickman had an off day with clutch problems on one of the superbike races, so Dunlop didn't need to risk. Pretty sure...

Thanks! I had looked at the mapping sites. Like most things our area isn't really covered well by the sites. I had a panic at first thinking none of our stations were broadcasting, but a second site had more information. I think we are in a bit of a valley so this whole thing might not work...

So my mom has wasted money on tv for years, dodging back and forth between dish and direct. We live in a small town so that's all there is. Both are crooked as hell and slowly raise your bill, hoping you won't notice, until you get angry enough to switch to the other one. The minimum buyin...

I know we usually come here to complain (or I do) but this year we've had this fantastic spring. Nice and cool in the mornings, warm and rainy in the afternoons. Lovely weather the past 2 weeks or so. Normally we go from frozen to baking in the span of a day and never get any spring.

My worthless opinion: The ocean base being the ship they arrived in is unlikely. Assuming no clarketech ships need to be big to cross the gulf. Meters of hull at the front, and lots of power and propulsion, though the power requirements aren't as big as people think. Most of the formulae...

    Unreal Engine 4 (free!)

That last paragraph is depressing but true. I wonder if this newish trend of releasing early and half-finished has driven the 2 dominant middleware towards being strong at that early prototyping stage, and no work gets put toward longterm large scale projects. I've had really poor luck with...

I'm in the middle of watching quali 5. The TT+ coverage is better this year. They've had a few technical glitches, and the first day some audio problems, but it is great just to watch the bikes. Last year I complained because they were constantly cutting away to interview the crew chief's...

Yea Empyrion has been around a very long time. I can't remember the date it went early access but I've been playing many years. For them, almost as soon as the first early access was out, the project barely moved. The build system they started with has changed little, and it is the most...

I was thinking about engines this morning. Both Unreal and Unity are great at that initial get-something-running stage. Both have serious problems once maps and assets start getting larger. My top 3 fave games are unity unity unreal in Empyrion, Eco, Conan. All 3 sprang to life out of the...
