What I meant by this whole thing was that on paper the Roman Empire should still be going today in some form. Nobody was going to take the Romans down...except the Romans. Kinda like the United States.

Nope. Just go for the best ratio 1HBs you can find. Staff of Shielding is the popular one, but there are a bunch. Don't use 2HB until 20+ when the damage cap lifts. Even then stick with your best ratio weaps. Later, empty H2H takes the lead.
