The secret to my success! I don't think I'd get a rat ogre at this point if I was playing Skaven. I tend to build two gutter runners that are ball hawks and support them with blitzers instead.

As a general rule I stay away from them. There are exceptions but you're usually going to get a better character with someone that you have to promote yourself since you can ensure you get to level 20 before promoting them.

Max level is usually 20 (regardless of base or advanced class). Generally what I do is use the early chapters of a Fire Emblem game to level up the main character as they often don't upgrade except through the story and then worry about everyone else. I'm still waiting on my 3DS bundle...
