Leveling with Fl4k using a pet build was super fun. I didn't bother with the fade away stuff until 50. The pets can't handle mayhem 3 very well but are solid for your initial playthrough.

Beat the main story to unlock mayhem mode. Then you can keep it on normal mode and just select mayhem 1,2 or 3 when in Sanctuary. I beat the main story around level 32ish and set the game to mayhem 3. Everything scaled up to my level and I just farmed until 50, then started over on true vault...
