You don't run defiant battlegrounds to get the engrams, you run to spend defiant keys at the end. You can get engrams from any boss kill/activity completion in the game.

That's exactly the reason I run disc mod on my hunter. Int and str are useless but I need all of the top 4 stats. Disc makes sure I waste as little as possible. Also the blue stat mods add +30 while you have an armor charge, which is... always.

Overall level determines how much damage you take. Weapon level determines how much damage you do. In content where your level is automatically brought up (Defiant BG's, etc) this is irrelevant. In content where your level is capped, it will matter.

Seasonal content was all basically six man matchmade activities with weekly story updates, occasionally tied to exotic missions. The exotic missions themselves are being added to a rotator playlist since the weekly locational content is going away. So ultimately you shouldn't miss anything...

Activities that they added seasonally are gone but the WQ campaign and quests are still available. You'll most likely be thrown directly into the first Lightfall mission upon logging in next.
