Tap lands are still tap lands. It's going to take more than just this board clear to make the tempo loss worth playing a lot of gates. I could be wrong, but I doubt there will be a competitive standard deck that uses a lot of gates.

The deck matching is only for the BO1 ladder. In the competitive queues you get placed against people with same/similar win loss record, deck strength is not considered.

Since all sets have some bomb rares that are desirable for decks I would suggest starting with the sets that contain the good dual lands. GRN for the shock lands, Ixalan and Dominaria for the check lands. M19 would probably be the one set I would avoid, but it´s not awful either. I recommend...

If you buy the 20k gems pack its 7.50 per draft, going 3-3 cuts the cost in half, at 4-3 you can go infinite. So if you can win half your games its about 4 bucks per draft. Not being able to cash in on rares that you get from drafting like on mtgo does hurt though.
