I got hooked on arena tournaments, just did basically a world tour and gained over 120 renown from doing so many. Also gained 20k and a bunch of pretty good items in the process. 10/10 would fight in the arena again.

It's super different, even in mass combat you primarily control one person and issue commands where you can to your unit.

In a city go to the tavern district and you can sell them. Otherwise you can recruit them after they've been with you a while.

There is no way the game is almost ready imho. The core game is mostly done (I think) but I think it's going to take them a long time to produce enough content (i.e.zones, dungeons, quests, raids) to release.
