@Gavinmad have you considered pain management? It's not a fix (sadly I don't think this shit can be fixed) but it helps. I tell my family all the time they aren't really pain killers, they just make you not care as much that every FUCKING BREATH HURTS. It's fucking cold here in the Vegas area...

Tip, use hammer drill (with spade bit if you have one) to soften the ground then scoop out with cheap shovel. Also you can now point to that and say 'I did that'. I really really miss that part of being in the field.
