You can still manually update addons by downloading them directly off the web. I minimized my addon use to (mostly) ElvUI, Recount, DBM, and weakauras a long time ago and never seen the need to install an extra program to upkeep 4 addons.

I made far, far more gold in Legion, per character with optimal set ups, than in WoD, from the table.

The BFA table was utterly worthless. The gold from it was probably less than 10% per week, per character, of what we were getting in Legion and it never improved much throughout the xpac. I don't expect the Shadowlands table to be any better, but, on the other hand, it can't get any worse.
