Yes, all pizza tastes the Wendy's indeed. If you want to do it right, get a Comp Sci degree. If not, then just go to an accredited online college with the cheapest tuition possible and get an IT degree.

Programming in silicon valley or on games is a young mans game - but not government. If you want to stay in defense and program and I guarantee you can do it. Java and C# are probably the two most prevalent but all languages get used. I've been getting hit up to write Go for a project - I've...

I really want to make more money but the handful of interviews I've had elsewhere make me truly appreciate my current working environment. It's laid back, we do cool shit, get TONs of freedom... It's hard to put a price on some of that stuff. I might pivot my strategy towards picking up a higher...

    Extreme Lack of Motivation

You know what to do. You just need to do it. I've gone through periods of stagnation like this where I'm sitting around waiting for some magic motivation but it won't come. Start exercising, start going to bed at the same time every night, getting up at the same time in the morning, brushing...

Seems like just buying pre-made unity models would be the way to go. They actually have some pretty good looking ones.

    Laptop Computers

I have the previous Gen of that acer and it's been great. Plays all the blizzard games at mid graphics settings with no issue. I run hyper-v on it and visual studio for dev and test stuff and it all runs great. The i5 sucks for virtualization but as long as I only turn on a couple VMs at a time...

    Desktop Computers

I'd just hook the monitors up via DVI to the PC and then HDMI to the mac. You may need an adapter for the dual display. Then either swap the receiver if you have wireless mouse/keyboard or use a USB hub. Digital kvms are retarded expensive so you'd have to do analogue with adapters to make it...

    Regrets

I played poker with btc (online gambling in WA State was illegal) and had 30 at my highest when they were worth like 12 a piece. I got my first bit quarter by winning it in a free roll tournament and built up from there. I treated then like play money since I didn't buy them and selling them...

I was replacing capacitors on my fridge board for a couple years. It would blow one every 3-5 months and it apparently was a recall thing but i was given the fridge for free quite a while after the warranty ran up. It was cheap to just desolder and solder a new one and I got pretty good at it...

    Keyboards & Mice

I have a g600 and love it. I can't play MMOs without tons of side buttons anymore. I started with the razr mmo mouse which I thought was great until I got the Logitech which IMO completely blows it out of the water. Anyone going from a regular mouse to an mmo one will have a learning curve...

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

I am debating over playing this. I've heard good things from everyone who has played yet... Somehow no one still plays. If it kills enough time that I can play it until WoW releases the revamped leveling content I'll consider it a success.

    Regrets

I don't really have any regrets. I do wish I would've not fucked off my last year of high school and kept my good gpa then gone to a good University for a CS degree, but that's really just hindsight kicking in. The reality is that I also had no idea what I wanted to do then nor did I have the...

I don't have much experience building scalable shit but from the research I've done for some stuff at work, the basic idea is that you set up the ELB for your web front ends and then use the cloudwatch service to start/stop additional instances as you hit certain utilization thresholds. The DB...

Well I knew a guy who got a job in another state, put his house up on the market and gets an offer about 7 days in. Full asking price, buyers are pre-approved both realtors agree it's all good so he moves. It's a VA loan so the inspection takes forever and after he's been out of state for 2...

I think he means that you should get a home inspection for you own knowledge so you can potentially fix some shit or offer some money back when you get an offer. If the house is older and you aren't real savvy with home maintenance, I'd say it's worthwhile to have a home inspection before you...

Perl was awesome in it's time though. I did a ton of cgi shit back in the day. My high school teacher was impressed as fuck when I showed him how I could add text to a webpage on the fly with a perl cgi script I wrote.

One of the things he mentioned was that I didn't have experience with 5 nine datacenters... Which I found ridiculous because I hadn't even mentioned (nor did my resume) anything like that nor had he asked. He just kind of told me that I didn't. I really didn't know what to say to it since none...

Had an interview for the first job I mentioned and it was terrible. The CIO was asking most of the questions and the handful of technical people he had in the room with him looked completely defeated. The CIO just rambled on about how I was missing experience with "insert product name." Each...

Nas are very cheap to build yourself. I run an old dell desktop with 4x 1tb drives in a raid 10. It has Solaris as the OS and I use ZFS as the filesystem along with NFS and samba to share it out. I've lost a few disks over the years and never lost any data. The major downside of course is that...

Just like most IT titles, QA varies greatly in scope from job to job. At most of the places I've worked QA are a couple of dudes who run a quality center server and email out automated test results to developers (and often admins as well for some reason). Most of the people either moved onto...

I've got a couple of potential jobs I'm pursuing. Id like to get the one I mentioned previously, but I'm also interviewing with Microsoft after the holiday. I'm trying to lose some weight. Finally hit 200 (I'm only 5' 7" so is quite big for me) after years of eating like shit. Started this keto diet 2 weeks ago and down 9 pounds. Obviously not all fat, but my shirts aren't feeling snug anymore so I'll take it.

SVN is definitely too light weight for projects with more than one or two devs, but it's awesome for scripts and config files. Plus it's portable. I dump my repos to a portable drive, install svnserv on whatever machine I'm building and have instant repo access.

We have a master branch and release branches for bug fixes only. I don't do any development but I run the TFS server I wish I could replace with git. At my last job we rocked an SVN server for all our scripts. I actually like subversion a lot.

It's more efficient to maintain a temperature via one or the other (heat or AC), but running both will always use more energy. Stephen King's The Dark Tower

I've never read the books. I thought Stringer Bell and Mcconaughey were decent but the movie felt rushed as fuck. It was strikingly obvious (even to someone who hasn't read the books) that this was condensed and glossed over. Even then, I found it interesting enough to finish.

See you are drawing the wrong conclusion. I'm not saying anything about ok or not ok. I'm asking why people think that PMI is this big money dumpster fire to be avoided in all situations. I'm of the mindset that people should do whichever makes more sense. Why should you pay someone elses mortgage and pmi for 10 years when you could be paying your own? On the flipside, if you know you are likely going to need to move for any number of reasons in a year or two, then yeah buying...

No, not at all. Renting is great when you don't want to commit long term. I currently rent and plan to for another couple of years while I settle in. The point I was making - which no one has countered - was that given a scenario where you could purchase with a pmi loan and have your payment...
