I really want to know how they plan to build an MMO for 800k. If they only get 800k, what kind of product can we expect? I'm suspicious, but in for $100 anyway because there's a 0.1% chance we'll get something amazing.

I agree but as time goes we tend to forget the things that were absolutely fucked about EQ2 PvP as well, like chasing people around clouds/spires/zonelines, how some classes were ridiculously OP and others compared to others (I played a bruiser so no sour grapes here), evac in pvp..

My favourite games to PvP in were mostly PvE games, fighting other players over PvE resources. Fighting in dungeons in Vanguard, fighting over raid bosses in EQ.

What would you give the best MMO award to? All of the options are terrible. I would probably give it to ARR as well even though it's awful, it's the best of a very bad bunch. I found Neverwinter to be basically unplayable, it was just an atrocious game.

Hard to say for sure one way or the other. If this had been the first content patch then they would have retained a lot more players probably, and with better retention they wouldn't have dumped 3/4 of their devs, and with more devs they would have been able to roll out content more quickly...

I fired up SWTOR to try out Galactic Starfighter a couple of days ago and I have to give bioware props for that one. It's almost a whole new game they've patched in in a free content patch. Complex, fun to play and robust.

Very similar to me. My first hour in EQ was creating a DE SK, walking around Neriak a bit completely lost, accidently attacking a guard, respawning somewhere where I had absolutely no idea where I was or how to get back to where I came from... I actually couldn't work out where to go from there...

The extreme mode primals look entertaining. I particularly like Titan filling 80% of his dias with landslides. Ifrit with the whole area covered with plumes is great too.

EQ2 does it! They hid the PvP effects underneath a checkbox so that the average dumb PvE player doesn't get confused.

Having multiple melee dps on T2 makes dealing with the rot more complicated but in general endgame in FFXIV seems more melee friendly than most MMOs.

The very first dungeon I went in to in Daggerfall had a staircase at the beginning and trying to climb it resulted in falling through the terrain and getting stuck.

You have to do the whole relic quest again to get a 2nd weapon. That gear level will be fine for Chimera/Hydra/Ifrit/Garuda. You might need a bit more to do Titan. You want probably 3.3-3.4k life to survive the AEs.

Rift was (is?) a good MMO. It had the best instanced PvE of any MMO I've played. I quit when my guild imploded due to stalled progress part way through hammerknell but I really enjoyed the dungeons/raids up to that point.

Yeah I watched the twitch PTS stream of it yesterday and was quite impressed, I'll definitely be giving it a go next year some time.

WAR was good until you dinged 40. All the lower tiers PvP was great, even Tor Anroc! Being able to level with nonstop warzone queues was really great fun.

Last I saw SK/Pal/Mnk/Bru are all pretty high tier DPS in reckless stance.. Not sure about guard/zerk.

There are specific areas you can plant houses. It's fully non instanced, so there was a land rush early on to get the plots in the best locations. I enjoyed exploring some of the empty areas, it felt kind of like ghost towns where the population had fled to due a plague or war or whatever.

Logged in last night in Aussie prime time (so middle of the night in NA) on Nagafen which is a pretty dead server in general and the place was packed with new level 85s to fight... Pity the place will be a ghost town again in under a week.
