    Lawyer costs question

    1. Get a fee agreement that delineates exactly what you are paying for and how (flat fee, hourly, when the fee is earned, etc) 2. Check with your State Bar or Supreme Court to find out if the attorney you are hiring has any public discipline

I picked up Nord. I'm guessing by your quote it doesn't log. It lets me select a NY location which gives me exactly what I need to watch live FiOS (the whole reason I wanted it). I stopped using torrents after all the good ones I knew shut down. Been messing around with putlocker. Super...

Kind of concerning, actually. Brad used to be a really good writer- cogent, clear, concise... Those posts are none of those things. Hope the dude is ok

Sounds like VPN probably worth it for security anyway then. Nord was like 6 or 7 bucks a month for a yearly plan. Thanks all for the input.

Yeah I guess that was my next question... Any use for VPN aside from being able to watch FiOS in EST? If not, not sure it's worth the $

Never messed with a VPN. My (limited) understanding of VPN is that it masks your IP- does it spoof it? Can you control where it looks like you are coming from or is it random? If it routes me through Norway or some shit it's not really going to fix my issue. I need to appear like I'm coming...

Not a torrent question, but didn't want to make a new thread for this: I'm using an EST (US) Fios account to watch tv online and keep bumping into issues for times/shows because it detects I'm not on the East Coast. I'm sure there is an easy way for me to fool the Fios website into thinking...

Great ideas are cheap. Making them happen is really expensive. The ability to properly assess your resources and limit your scope accordingly is an invaluable skill. Obviously, I have no idea what went on behind closed doors, but this is probably where lack of experience hurt the VR team.

    Relocating from Philly to Denver

10, or even 5 years ago you'd be right. But that shit is changing. Millennial females are definitely gamers- not just video but pnp/board games/card games. My GF has several young (attractive) female friends through work that found out I play pnp RPGs and really want me to "teach them" how to...

    The D&D thread

Split parties is actually an annoying reality for pnp RPGs. Sometimes the natural course of the story (and people being true to their characters) results in the party splitting up. As a GM, it's annoying having to cut back and forth between two groups. You can do things to encourage party...

    Relocating from Philly to Denver

I'm going to recommend you find a place to live in Aurora (east Denver). Going to be hard for you to make friends in Denver proper or anywhere west and most places south. As far as girls- tons of hot, fit girls. Problem is, tons of hot, fit dudes too. Unless you want to settle for a trailer...

It's a college town, but a really, really expensive one. The town is right in front of the Flat Irons (mountains) so it's gorgeous and the amenities are off the chart. A crystal clear river runs through Boulder and there is an awesome white water tubing park right in town. You can grab a 12...

    RFC EQ Emu Server

This server 100% uses ideas that have been on some of the best emu servers (no need to reinvent the wheel) but nobody has ever put these ideas together like this. The whole premise is sustainability. You've got to let the wolves get theirs, but you build things in a way that encourages pvp...

I generally keep a pretty close eye on the mom market myself these days. In another 20 years, creating a successful mmo is going to look like Stonehenge or the pyramids. We'll have evidence it was done, but no one will be able to figure out how. It's already becoming a lost art.

    RFC EQ Emu Server

A pvp server would require more supervision than a blue server, for sure. I'd strongly recommend against any type of ROE on a red server though. One of the best things about SZ was that it was pretty self regulated. No bullshit raid calendars or lines. You just took what you wanted- if you...

Both preference and ruleset, really. I played TZ until SZ opened. Moved to SZ on opening day and never played another Live server again. A lot of this stuff is a matter of opinion, but at the time the consensus was that team Evil had the most/best race/class combinations, followed by Neuts...

    RFC EQ Emu Server

Difficult to explain if you haven't played p99 or many of the other servers over the years. Replicating p99 would take a ton of work. Making a half assed version with a million "close enough" differences and a population of 50-150 is relatively easy (it's been done dozens of times). But the...

Baldur's Gate 3 by Larian Games

Actually I think it was the wonky controls I couldn't get past. I did a lot of OC stuff with the editor in NWN 1 and I was really excited about NWN 2, but something made me quit before long. Something to do with the map editor I think. Probably wasn't patient enough with it.

Right. This is why I mentioned (along with others) that D&D (any edition) doesn't translate well to video games without significant modification. What you are talking about are the tactical, detailed elements of an RPG game that make it really "crunchy." PnP games have to limit those details...

I'm pretty fucking critical when it comes to RPGs, but there isn't a reason to play any other version of D&D other than 5e except for nostalgia. Even then it would be hard. To put it in perspective, I would not have said the same thing before they came out with 5e. None of the previous...

    Doctor Sleep (2019)

It was a good book and could make a good movie. Yeah, I though the end was anticlimactic but appropriate so it didn't bother me. Then again I thought the end of Deadwood (the series not the movie) was perfect, despite being anticlimactic.

Yeah, for sure GoT is another example. It really started as soon as they deviated from Grrm's text. Tyrion got the worst of the dialog aspect of that. The guy was known for his witty aphorisms but after they left canon his attempts were painful to watch. Edit: and those were professional...

This is true, actually. 5e will definitely be better than 2e for a BG game, but it will still be seriously lacking in video game format. Tbh, no D&D iteration yet has translated really well to video game format (except maybe 4th edition, which is ironic, considering how bad it was as a pnp...

I can't give you specifics because it's been years since I played 2e, but the mechanics are really awkward and dated compared to modern RPG mechanics. D&D 3.5 and 5e build on the foundation laid out by 3.0. You can move pretty seemlessly between any of them without missing a beat. But 2e was...
