I really like the idea for a couple of reasons. You already mentioned a more populated starting area, but it also frees up content around the cities. If your actual live game doesn't have to have any content below level 5, that allows for a much better world imo than having a shitty level 1...

That's P99 and you can't expect those rules to carry over into a 2017 game. It's also not just trade value, these items have a high trade value now for a reason, they're still good to use, if not sell.

Have we talked about quest loot at all yet? Take, for example, Crushbone belts or Polar Bear skins. Stuff that is not really common, yet is worth 100 times the mobs average loot. That only 1 drop for the whole group and decide might work in higher levels, but it really doesn't work at lower levels.
