yea it's kind of hard to get a story tangent. the 'ranni the witch' questline series gives a great set of clues and items with descriptions about the lore. highly reccomend if you're not above peeking at the wiki.

are you running out of stamina during that block sequence? like does each spine hit your shield. your stamina runs out and your dude wheels his arms and staggers back?

tower shields mainly give a bonus block to your poise while blocking. i presume you're already using a 100 physical resist shield. the towers will grant more resistance to non-physical hits and improved poise. a lot of you 'always taking damage' is because some attacks aren't purely physical...

i do it. everyone else in the world uses controller and loves it. I did a little remapping. you have to change a menu option to make it display hotkey tips for things in real people language instead of calling everything R2 etc.
