Engineering is precise and mechanical based on math. No shit you use metric. Real world day to day applications however are not based on laboratory measurements. They are based on human elements of perception.

I dont know about any zoom. usually thats locked more or less for balance reasons. But you can use ctrl to look further in one direction at a time. edit: apparently there is a zoom in options. But yeah. zooming out makes the game easier. shouldn't really let you go too far.
