I still haven't gotten a good idea of what's good to pick up and what's not, in terms of rare items. The game does a poor job of reinforcing this because even items that are, on average, worth picking up, will still be trash 99% of the time. How do you gauge it?

That's an odd complaint. Are they actually blaming compile time on why they can't be more responsive? Depending on the change, for an application this size, I can see overnight as a reasonable amount of time to build a new installer.

An enameled dutch oven is a good way to start with cast iron if you're weary about the upkeep of a regular cast iron pan. I haven't actually felt the need to buy one yet, the dutch oven does everything I would want out of a cast iron pan.
