Well the only content you need an actual static to clear is Gordias Savage. You can do mostly everything else with PuGs as long as you find the right PuGs. Even if you don't join a hardcore FC, you should still be able to find am FC that has at least decent players.

The average FFXIV player is awful. In fact, out of all the major PvE MMOs I've played (EQ2, Rift, etc.), FFXIV has had the least skilled average population. Odin is not difficult by any stretch of the imagination, PuGs are just garbage.

Gordias Savage 4 is a terribly designed crapfest anyways. None of the fights in Gordias are fun except for 3.

B&S arena isn't "tacked on." It's actually balanced very finely and is even an eSport in South Korea. But that's all 1v1. And as far as Black Desert being "quest-based," that's not entirely true. The only quests worth doing are the initial 5 or 6 tutorial quests and your Black Spirit quests...

I will probably be playing B&S casually, so the initial longevity of the game doesn't matter too much to me. I know the world PvP in B&S is horribly unbalanced but I still love it, especially the little PvP areas where you collect tokens from killing NPCs and take them back to your faction camp...

MMORPGs are different, though. With MMORPGs, there is the expectation that one's purchases will be admired by others. The whales that seek that expectation flock to MMOs. If they didn't, they'd be playing crappy phone games as you say.

The whales only spend so much money because they have other players to show their stuff off to. If the non-whales go away, so will the whales.

The problem is that they're still making money. Many people consider games like Rift to have "failed" but the reality is that they're still making insane dosh. The time is not yet right.

I am being serious. With a few rare exceptions, the current MMORPG industry is "spend way too much money on development costs, then go F2P for easy money." As more and more players become alienated by this practice, the industry as a whole will do worse and worse, until even the whales can't...

It is my hope that within the next couple of years, the MMORPG market will crash, and then a couple of years after that, the genre will rise anew, like a Phoenix from the ashes, but better than ever before. We just need some really big MMOs to fail in order to get the ball rolling...

AFAIK this is correct, though obviously it won't be the same MMORPG because that's shutting down. SE said they want to try to recreate the game as a single-player experience and then port it to mobile.
