    Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

As good as it's looking right now I would be surprised if it beats JL. I'd be doubly surprised if it breaks a billion world wide. The Thor movies have not done big numbers as Marvel movies go and in spite of this one looking to be very different from the first two it's still gonna carry that...

And it's only not doing well relative to it's budget. If they could have somehow made it for closer to $100 million it would be approaching it's break even point with it's world wide box office currently close to $200 million. Apparently Villeneuve spent a lot of money building practical sets...

For some reason DisneyXD only has the first of today's new episodes up so far but it was a step up from last week. The show is better when entire crew is around to play off of one another.

It's pretty bad when your $120 million global destruction flick opens up a distant second to a fucking Madea movie. Maybe they should have cast Tyler Perry in a dress for this thing.

With the visuals this movie had I'm looking forward to what some independent artists might end up doing with alternate movie posters or pictures. Not a lot out there for it yet.

    Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

These are a couple of guys whose reviews I frequently check out. Like RLM I find their perspective interesting even though their humor doesn't quite work for me. Thankfully they isolate it to relatively brief jump cut moments and don't go for laughs as much. They tend to get really specific...

    Blade Runner 2049 (2017)

It isn't just not being familiar with Villeneuve's preferred style but what the intersection of this director with this genre (sci-fi noir, specifically the noir half of that equation) is likely to produce. Honestly the finished product ran past my expectations as well in some regards.

    Marvel's The Inhumans

What's sad is it's so bad they've actually damaged The Inhumans as a brand. They're going to have to shelve the royal family for a while just to let the stink wear off of them after this. Maybe once Perlmutter has retired/been run off and Feige decides he wants to make a real Inhumans movie...

They're definitely trying to say "hey look, we're not all dark all the time now" with this one. I still don't like the look of either Flash or Cyborg though. Those just aren't gonna grow on me.

Not a single word title but it's essentially what you were talking about: For single word I guess we could go: That's off the top of my head for movies with a long time gap between the original and the follow up. The Wolverine movies would be additional examples though they aren't that...

    Justice League (2017)

Though I've often found their perspective interesting and agree with a lot of it I've never found them particularly funny. Even the Mr. Plinkett stuff from those prequel breakdowns was only good for about half a chuckle before getting extremely repetitive and becoming an annoying distraction.

Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)

I was hoping they'd borrow a line from Bloodhound Gang, Stroking My Own Wookie: A Star Wars Story. They really need to come up with a different subtitle for all of these anthology movies. "A Star Wars Story" is too long and overly self-indulgent to boot.

    Blade Runner 2049 (2017)

This is BR2049's specific problem as to why it's not doing better financially. A movie with a 9 figure budget has to hit in all of the quadrants as they say (male and female, over and under 25 in each) in order to do well. It's audience has been heavily weighted into only one of those, males...

I really don't know. Like you said the money that a studio makes from back end sources is something that is a lot harder to decipher than box office revenue. I would think a movie tanking at the box office probably doesn't help very much when it comes times to negotiate those back end deals...

Blame it on spending over $150 million in the process of making a lot of creative decisions that all but guaranteed it would have limited appeal. If you're one of those it appeals to, such as myself, you mark it up as one of those rare wins at Hollywood's expense.

After watching the S4 premier I'm starting to think that Filoni might be emulating his mentor a little too much. The tonal mismatch between Mandalorians getting vaporized in their armor alongside jet pack slapstick with Ezra is very reminiscent of the prequels. I know it's a kids show and the...

I don't like 3D myself for the vast majority of movies but they must not want this thing to make any money because it sure needs every bit of help it can get, including the premium ticket price for 3D. The weekend drop off for it was not small (over 50%) but fortunately it's mid-week numbers...
