    Web Serials

With a bit of extra reading time over the xmas break, I've read through a few more serials. Stories in early days, for when not having an seemingly insurmountable backlog is a plus: Paranoid Mage - Urban fantasy type setting - successful architect gets caught up in a supernatural shootout...

    Wheel of Time

I think you overestimate how much influence a creative consultant has. If they tell him to fuck off, he has no option but to do so.

    Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

Yeah, as far as I know, all of the bite attacks stack. There's only two downsides I can think of - first is that if you use a reach weapon you have to move into close range to bite them, if you attack at max range it'll just skip biting. The other is that most (all?) of them count as secondary...

    The Witcher

You are, to some extent, at the mercy of the sound mix, but if you have a 5.1 or better system, all dialogue should be coming from center channel, so you can just boost that.

    The Expanse

Mmm yes and no. I quite like the series, other than book 4, which almost made me quit reading it. Season 1 of the show was a very good adaptation though, you won't get a lot of extra from the book I think, which leaves it in a kind of odd place. I can't see any way that the book series end...

    Wheel of Time

Apparently, in the show, the whole giant thing on the floor was the 'seal'. Moiraine picks up a broken bit of it and has a discussion with Lan about how it shouldn't be possible to break it. There's some cognitive dissonance for book readers, as the seals are small, hand-held things.

Eh, it's $5, threw it into the queue, it will probably be out of early access by the time I get around to playing it ;p

Random thoughts on recent web serial stuff : Pirateaba is fully revealed to be either a sapient AI or a cyborg. The reason for this will be obvious when the announcement is made for non-patrons. Oooh, a Pith update... ... to announce it's permanently dead. Booo. Planetary Cultivation - this...

We heard you like canon, so we put some canon in your canon... and then took a shit on it, threw it out, and went with some random bullshit because fuck you nerds.

    Fall 2021 Anime Thread

Yeah, great show. None of the characters are what you think at first, except maybe the shadow's 'step-dad'.

Plus the way Barton's brain grinds to a halt when she asks him what to do with the mini van was pure gold.

    Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

Credit to this guy Steam Community :: Guide :: Olivia Obscene the (ma)thematically correct Lich for the ideas - I've been comparing it to the neoseeker melee sorcerer suggestions, and this one definitely ends up superior. I'd note that it's written as a solo build guide, but that seems a very...

    Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

Seeker -> Scaled Fist -> Cross-Blood Sorc -> Dragon Disciple -> Eldritch Knight Hey, if you aren't going to use degenerate builds in Unfair, where are you going to use them ? 8)

    Hawkeye

Yeah, that guy was hilarious. "I think I missed something here" *shrugs and goes sword fight some dudes - who needs to know what's going on ?*

    Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

Hmmm, the difficulty cliff for Unfair is entirely backwards. You go from getting repeatedly kicked in the balls and desperately trying to work out what combination of dropped scrolls is going to let you live through the next fight, to ROFLstomping pretty much immediately after taking the first...

    Starsector (formerly Starfarer)

It's very easy to get into. There's an unbelievable shitload of depth there, but you don't get to it right away, you can more or less pick up a starter ship with drones and let them kill shit for you while you get used to stuff and just cruise around randomly.

    Hawkeye

IMO the best person in Daredevil was the fight choreographer, but D'Onofrio was a close second ;p

    Wheel of Time

The flashback to Dragonmount fight was actually pretty good. If only the whole show was on that level. So far my general opinion is that it's aggressively mediocre, which saddens me greatly. I do wonder at some of the complaining though - I have trouble with the idea that anyone seriously...

    All things Brandon Sanderson

Cytonic was pretty good, although I was a little disappointed at the ending. For some reason I thought it was the last book, not another cliffhanger.

    Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

More fanservice than a decade of fan fiction writers, only made into a coherent and entertaining whole, with genuinely touching moments. Judging from the noises in the theatre, I think several hardcore spiderman fans actually climaxed while watching it. Two thumbs up. Also it appears that...

    Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

My Unfair run is, uh, not exactly progressing smoothly. I have become intimately familiar with the 'reload' function ;p Honestly I think I would have preferred them going with the 'Everything has 10x as much health' approach, rather than the 'You need a 20 to hit, also it has undispellable...

    What did you just read?

One exception I find to this - PDF format ebooks - if they have anything other than the most basic formatting they turn out fucked in every conversion tool I have tried.

    Invasion

I might have missed something, but was there a reason the redneck militia were trying to kill them? They seemed inexplicably hostile for people in the middle of an alien invasion - I mean, even if you reeeeeeaaaaaalllly hate immigrants, hunting them through alien infected woods seems like a...

    Hawkeye

I'd assume she's *supposed* to be terrible at this point - she's a spoiled rich kid that's taken some karate lessons. This show is good fun so far. Agree on Hawkeye's one liners

What the fuck was Gaal's plan there anyway ? "OH NOES IT ALL SANK INTO THE WATER WHO COULD HAVE PREDICTED THIS?!" "Oh right, I predicted this. I guess I probably should have seen that coming."

    Wheel of Time

In the show she actually said that the dark one sent her visions of them in dreams. In the books the various darkfriends they run into can sense them - unclear if it's Ta'veren'ness, Saidin usage or Baalzamon's touch. The former is presumably the simpler version because that chick is several...

Holy shit. That was knocked so far out of the park that you can't even see the park anymore.

    Wheel of Time

Overall this wasn't that bad - it's no game of thrones, but it's not legend of the seeker either. Second and third episodes followed the book a lot more closely than I expected given ep1. Thom is good. Lan.. is not. He's ok when not talking, but his history of Shadar Logoth was just awful.

    Wheel of Time

I admit Perrin is the most boring character of the series, but having him axe-murder a baby is not the way I would have gone to spice things up ;p

    Cowboy Bebop

A faithful adaption would result in an entertaining number of traumatized children, but I can't imagine any universe in which it would happen. What would they even... oh - by the guy that did the netflix version of Death Note. Say no more.

    Wheel of Time

You are hedging a bit with 'key' there, but it really wasn't. Even some of the most compelling dialogue from the books, e.g. tower of joy, littlefinger vs lysa, was completely changed. Most of the rest of it was, at best, broad strokes - this should be obvious in an adaption that has a...

    Arcane

True, the idea that a respected scientist is only respected when he is telling them what they want to hear is entirely bizarre and could never happen in real life ;p
  33. V

    Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

If you play on the highest difficulties, no-one other than the main character is going to be doing damage anyway, so there's no reason not to increase convenience factor by a thousand times. Zero judgement on cheating them in though, life is way too short to apply 60 buffs every encounter.
  34. V

    Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

I used a mod for increasing buff duration just to avoid that in Kingmaker. In wrath though, enduring and greater enduring spells should resolve that 100%.

    Doctor Who

Clara's storyline finished when she split up. If they had left that as an ending to the character it would have been perfect IMO.
  36. V

    Arcane

I don't know anything about LoL or it's lore, nor do I give a fuck. This was great regardless. I'd watch it for the art alone, even if everything else sucked. Everything else is also top notch though - voice acting, story, animation. Two thumbs up.

    Fell Seal: Arbiters Mark

Bats with guns and lich princesses is where it's at for the OP original class builds. If you have the DLC though, there's quite a few extremely strong monster builds possible to add some variety to life ;p
  38. V

    Doctor Who

IMO Tennant was the better actor, but Smith had better supporting cast and scripts. Which is mostly what hurt the last two - I don't think having Davies back in charge is going to matter much unless they find a replacement writer of Moffat's caliber, regardless of who is cast as the Doctor.
