You can fix the Battletech game via mods, but I haven't bought any of the DLC so can't say if any of it has been fixed "officially" yet.

You can do 95-96ish on any build just playing normally, but past that unless you literally never die progress will get real slow. They cost something dumb like 2ex each and it'll take like 50+ of them in a decent rotation to get 100.

Mostly they are scamming. But a few of them are doing it for XP yea. It's the fastest/safest way to grind 100, but is very expensive, so the idea is to rotate who buys the stones so each person only floats 1/4th the cost or however many people there are.

Don't forget lacerate if you want to play melee. It's the only thing even comparable to Cyclone imo, and can be built much tankier than Cyclone can generally. It also has the perk of pretty heavy DoT damage so you can still dps assholes like Sirus that never stand still very long.
