I was going to recommend the Aquarium at Monterey as well but it doesn't sound like they have that much time to spend. It's like a 3-6 hour stop easily but it's great if you're into fish at all. I've been there probably 7 times and would happily go again but I like fish.

According to the youtube video I just googled up, the layers only need about 10-15 minutes each to set because they are so thin but you're still looking at most of a day to make that thing.
