It has giant robots and a bonkers plot like Xenogears. But the narrative focuses around high school kids mostly. Xenogears is my favorite JRPG of all time and I like 13 Sentinels a lot.

The combat is lack luster for sure. Can't explain why the story is good without spoiling anything. And avoid spoilers or it will ruin the experience of the way the story is told. That experience of the plot points coming together and figuring out what is going on is what makes the game so good.

I beat the game and thought it was one of the best games I have ever played. The main appeal for me is the way the story unfolds and you figure out what is going on. Early on you have no idea what is going on but it starts to get amazing once the plot points start falling in place.

Just beat 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim. It is one of the best games I have ever played. Never had a gaming experience like this. Hard to explain why the game is so good without spoiling anything. That is likely why the reviews seem off and dont really explain much of what makes it so great.

Have most the character stories at 80% right now and enjoy it a lot. It is a hard game to describe but ill try. The game is broken up into 3 parts. The main one is the story parts, plays sort of like an adventure game without puzzles. Walk around talking to people and the story is presented...

I suck at these games too. Try using the shield with the charge up attack. Being able to block damage with that really helps.
