Just think of it as a 3.5gb card. The extra .5 gb is marginally faster than using system ram if you overflow the 3.5gb, but not by much.

If you already have a 900 series card just wait for the 1080ti HBM2 SuperUltraClocked whatever in Q1 2017. The fact that these initial cards are shipping without HBM2 makes them not really worth buying unless you're stuck on a 770 or lower and even then I'd just buy the 1070 instead of the 1080.
