    The Last of Us

Haven't played the game, but from reading a handful of metacritic reviews and comments here....leaves me wondering what in the fuck is wrong with writers nowadays? It's like they have severe mental issues and are pushing their depressing bullshit on us all. It's not even well-done depressing shit.

The Fermi Paradox -- Where is everybody?

I never understood this argument. All it would take is for *one* of those civilizations to last long enough to colonize beyond their home world. And, at that point, they're golden. As others have mentioned, you don't need warp drive to colonize the entire galaxy in a relatively short period...

    Phantasy Star Online 2

I had to reload Windows 10 on my system. Decided to reinstall PSO2 because, who knows, maybe I had something funky going on with my Windows installation. So, reinstalled Win10 fresh...latest drivers, etc. Clean as whistle. Installed PSO2 and *same* fucking problem. Installation goes corrupt...

    The Last of Us

Yeah, same with Babbage's. We just re-shrinked wrapped it and put it back on the shelf as new. I think they eventually had a lawsuit which put an end to that? I was gone by that point. But I know the return policy became hardcore sometime in the early 2000s.

    The Last of Us

So, quick history lesson: I think it was back in 97, "Babbage's" and "Software Etc" decided to merge. Problem is, a lot of the time both of these stores existed within the same mall. To compound matters, they kept all the existing district and regional managers. Needless to say, the newly...

Yeah, still enoying this. But it's gonna get real retarded if a bunch of inexperienced teenies with no inherent powers can take on the ISA and not get curb stomped.

    The Last of Us

As I sure you know, Gamestop was "Babbage's Software" back in the 90s. I was manager of one here in Virginia from 1991 to 1998. Good times and great memories. That was a great place to work before it became so heavily focused on add-on sales and used games.

I cashed out a couple weeks ago when my Vanguard account reached break-even. Was thinking of re-entering when and if the market goes below my exit point (I was mostly invested in the Vanguard VTI total-stock index fund). However, I had purchased a vehicle back in December and financed it for...

    Must Have Software

Reformatted my PC and went about installing my favorite software. Wow, just noticed that MediaPlayer Classic's development ceased back in 2017. What's a good alternative? Looking for something very minimalistic and simple, but supports all the popular codecs.

Is there such a thing where one can watch the trades of talented traders and just copy what they do? Obviously there would need to be some sort of notification system where one can react in near real-time.

    Killing Eve

I really enjoyed season 1. But season 2 and now season 3 seem to be meandering. Hard to keep interested. In my opinion, anyway.

2 years later... the almost sad state of MMOs in the new era

This is what I've been saying. Some studio out there should create a free-to-play dungeon crawler. Just dungeons, no open world. Maybe a hub or something so people can show off their shinies, but all other content is dungeon or dungeon-like for 5 or so players.

2 years later... the almost sad state of MMOs in the new era

I guess FF and GW2 are the only real alternatives? What's amazing is that we aren't that far off from 2024. By that point WoW will be 20 years old. TWENTY YEARS. 20 years prior to 2004 was 1984. If you showed me a game from 2004 back in 1984 my head would've exploded, not counting that it's...

Really? Nothing stood out to me as particularly bad. The bus CGI was terrible, though. And, shiver-me-timbers, have we not had an overtly gay character shoved in our face? Oh, I'm sure its coming but it's been refreshing so far.

This is the problem I'm having. And it infuriates me that I, THE ADMINISTRATOR, cannot access the folder contents without fucking around with permissions. I'm deleting the entire WindowsApp folder and not caring anymore. Why can't I just run a 'setup.exe' like a normal program?

I watched about 75% of the first episode and shut it off. The rest room scene with the piss rope was fucking stupid and juvenile. Why would one need to urinate in a simulation? Dumb.

If you're a .NET guy, then I think it should be fairly trivial to create a simple console app that makes a periodic call to a gmail API, looking whatever, and, lke TJT said, invoke the link. Unless you have to do more on the link's end? BTW: .NET Quickstart | Gmail API | Google Developers

Well, if you follow the "rules" of REST API, all you should have is GET, POST, PUT, DELETE endpoints. Don't create endpoints that act like function calls.

IT/Software career thread: Invert binary trees for dollars.

Personally, I think you should either return a refreshed list with the 200 response from your DELETE -or- perform a GET request to re-fetch the list. I really don't like splicing arrays. Granted, this will work fine with a simple 'TODO' app. However, think in real-world scenarios where you...

IT/Software career thread: Invert binary trees for dollars.

You can have your HTTP DELETE return a response with the updated list. Obviously, this is a bad idea if you have a massive list. But for small lists it's fine. But I would NOT manipulate an in-memory list of items and "assume" that the back-end call completed successfully. What if the db...

So my Vanguard ETF total gain/loss is now at "0". I have shares in VDE which is pure pain and a significant portion into VTI. I'm wondering if I should liquidate it all and wait for a dip, then re-enter into VTI and hold for long-term. Or, alternatively, take the loss in VDE and put that into...
