I played BG1/2 through a few times. I found the writing in BG3 consistent with them. I never played DoS 1 or 2, but did play Divinity II (The dragon one).

Add mounted combat ala bannerlord and I'm in. If it's just strategy with limited combat mechanics it's hard for me to be excited about it.

Looks like there were some game-breaking bugs with the economy simulation that they worked around by crippling the resource management, largely turning it into a city painter with traffic (which is how I felt City Skylines 1 was).

I think I'm biased because I spend more time talking with elite boxers that 100% enjoy boxing. I cut my gaming teeth playing party RPGs like Ultima 7, and multiboxing MMOs with tools like IS Boxer is kinda the ultimate inception of that genre.

Something about an open-world RPG with just a taste of base building is so much fun to me. I enjoy both genres and they work so well together. Kenshi is the best example of this, where it's a decent exploration game and an OK base builder/economy game, but together it's one of my favorite games...

Now that I've got some runtime with it, I'm really liking the 8Bitdo Ultimate. Having buttons on the back has removed any need to swap my thumb from the right control stick to the right facebuttons, which makes it much more comfortable for me.

By Act 3 I took Alert on all my characters, even my barbs with very high initiative. It's just too critical to go before any big bads.

It'd be feasible to add a harderer mode. You'd just need to use the power of action economy. And by that I mean, yeet out a bunch of extra mobs for a bunch of encounters and increase the stats/levels for enemies across the board. Especially initiative. BG3 on hard-mode is notably easy...

A harder difficulty mode is definitely a requirement for a future, DLC-bolstered playthrough of BG3 for me.
