You wouldn't want to do that, because that 55" (or 55feet a ways away from you because why not?) monitor would be at like 1200x1024 resolution. In the future when we get 8k HMDs, that will be a very attractive option.

I don't think prices will come down. I think $600 will be the standard. At least $500. The tech will improve over the next five years, demanding the maintenence of that price. Once we get retina level display, eye tracking etc, it'll become commoditized.

I wasn't around for the betamax days, but you can rest assured that no matter who wins, the CV1 will be obsolete in a year or two. It's unlikely that the VIVE's first release will make it obsolete though.
