    Vote for moderator(s) 2016?

All right, the vote was successful. Let's talk details. I haven't changed my opinion much from the above. We currently have 7 active moderators: Chaos, Erronius, Eyashusa, Noodlemod, Soygen, Tarrant, Tuco. We have 5 additional moderators who, as far as I know, do not actively moderate. It...

Yep. And the DK2 will be pretty cheap once the CV1 is out and doesn't have any lead time. I actually think the DK2 will be closer to CV1's performance than the CV1 will be to the CV2 in many respects. Both the CV1 and CV2 will likely have similar build quality though. And of course there will...

I expect the CV2 will cost $600. Same with CV3. There's just way too much technological improvement that will happen to expect the price will drop. To say it a different way, I expect the cost of the high-end VR devices to be $600 until we nail foveated rendering and retina level...

Sure, I think people, including me, expected it to be close to the DK2 price as a result of Palmer's statements over the last couple years. I just think people are overreacting. The Rift and VIVE are the first versions of a new technology at the enthusiast tier. It's going to be expensive. And...

Also re: system requirements, I believe the stuff they published is just the maximum requirements for whatever they certify in the store. Most of the things in their store won't require a GTX970. Ex: Windlands is going to run on your old ass systems: But that GTAV Oculus Rift mod that...

You wouldn't want to do that, because that 55" (or 55feet a ways away from you because why not?) monitor would be at like 1200x1024 resolution. In the future when we get 8k HMDs, that will be a very attractive option.

As long as they aren't making a large profit off of it, people have no reason to be upset. They haven't been deceitful at all about the price.

The estimated dates are probably all bullshit anyway. Someone made this thread: Oculus Rift Pre-Order Survey. Please only enter if you did not have technical issues completing your pre-order : oculus and made this chart from it: That shows some dates people got. I didn't see a date...

I think Valve has a real chance to masterstroke OVR here. If they sold VIVEs at a loss at like, $400 it'd be very hard not to cancel my pre-order. HTC doesn't have the spare cash to sell at a loss, but Valve does. Valve isn't that kind of business though. They just care that OVR sells their...

I don't think prices will come down. I think $600 will be the standard. At least $500. The tech will improve over the next five years, demanding the maintenence of that price. Once we get retina level display, eye tracking etc, it'll become commoditized.

ordered. I might cancel though. I put $500 as my definite yes and $700 as my definite no.

I wasn't around for the betamax days, but you can rest assured that no matter who wins, the CV1 will be obsolete in a year or two. It's unlikely that the VIVE's first release will make it obsolete though.

There's basically four big VR systems that are either out or coming out: Gear VR: for your phone, not a direct competitor to the Rift. It's out and pretty good for what it is. PSVR: For the PS4, not a direct competitor to the Rift. It's not out yet. I expect it to be good, but without a...

It's a huge issue and one of the large barriers to providing good user support and a wide library of easily usable games for the DK2. But it's a beta/developer version so that's to be expected. For the CV1, I expect the following: 1. The CV1 will work out of the box with a decent...

    Virtual Reality

That's a critical feature of VR / the rift, so I think you can expect that it will work with it. It's worked (and was broken) at different times with the DK2. One of the big hurdles with the DK1/2 was integration with the OS. They have to do very specific things to minimize the amount of latency...

Imagine if I said something like, "Hatorade's posts are so bad, only 25% of the population can understand anything he's saying.". But I include non-english speaking people in that. It'd be a meaningless number because only some 2 billion people in the world can speak passable english. It's...

Sounds about right. It's a super misleading number and techspot should be ashamed of the clickbait title. NVIDIA didn't say something as dumb as "1% of PCs will run this shit.". They said, "13 million will run it.". Then TechSpot looked at a different source that said, "Yeah there's about...
