Probably the largest part of the EQMac community has left the MMO sphere entirely.
A great chunk tried to keep the EQMac thing together when Destiny forged a path to PEQ, but the vast majority of those people left within a few months.
Some people are over on P99, but I don't think it's too...
Crazy end to the season, that I didn't see coming.
Their marriage had finally gotten some stability, the two were agreeing more than ever, but this divide may shake them. Philip is the good guy and Elizabeth can't make up her damn mind.
At the heart of it, there are two settings: offline and online. These two are separated from each other entirely. No cross-saves, etc.
The online is a bit different. There is only one server (shard). Because lag can be hectic with 100,000 people on your screen (okay, an exaggeration) they use...
PEQ's server stability is poor. It's been optimized for boxers. Also, the community is nice, but won't ever drop one of their automated boxers for a (new) player. It's heaven for people who want to play armies or use MQ2, but the server doesn't do a good job handling multiple styles of play -...
The episode last week would've made for the best season finale of all the shows I watch. This week's episode was great.
Also, so many possibilities for season 3!
Rebirth staff and server really impressed me when I was there. I know their website has been shakey and they've been the target of some DDOS attacks, but I really enjoyed it. ED was more popular, but Rebirth was better in every other way.
They aren't volunteers.
They are apprentice developers, working pro bono. Putting in all sorts of work.
They might also be receiving forum access for free while they can revel in their status with different colored forum handles!
No. The entire team is made up of "Apprentice devs" from the website.
A lucky few of them have been blessed by Brad to receive special colors for their forum names and are getting access to the paid message boards "pro bono."

Can you provide some examples of meaningful faction?
A lot of the stuff is just a grind. Faction isn't in any way meaningful, and no one starts off "better" than others. Faction used to be meaningful, interactive, and lore-based; in today's EQ, it's the easiest mechanic devs use to track a...
Wanted to highlight a couple poignant paragraphs.
Elidroth - the gamers, by and large, love the work the devs have done. We love EQ (or at least some iteration of it) that you all have made for us. With that said, the people in charge of business decisions at SOE have done no favors to their...
Like others have said, a lot of this response is a result of SOE looking for excuses to shut the server down. Whoever is in charge of decisions never put forth any effort or resources that could have seen EQMac succeed.
Hobart was a hero of the server. He put in tons of work, in his spare...
Beta announcement says they will not be ready for May. Which means the update will be one new zone, which is a tower containing ten floors with the exact same layout.
All sorts of people want mercs in their group, for reasons already posted in this thread.
Mercs are reliable--they don't go AFK--and they don't roll against you for loot. Getting some players to drop a merc when someone is LFG if like pulling teeth.
Mercs are a symptom of what is wrong...
Uhhhh mercs are allowed in instances. Players use them there all the time; the number of groups running CotF heroic adventures without a mercenary in their party is, in my experience, astonishingly low.
Mercs cannot be used in designated raid zones (which includes some instances), but no one...
A few independent thoughts:
Current EQ is the same engine, but the game has morphed and evolved so many times along the way it's not the same experience.
If there was a good, well-run emu locked in Velious-PoP I'd play there. PEQ is in GoD, which is just an abomination; perhaps once Omens...
You two sound out of touch. If a person isn't willing to put in 5 minutes to make an app, and leave behind a paper trail (because all sorts of dirty scum are on Test), chances are that person won't stick around and be worth raiding with. The process isn't extensive.
I'm not saying you're...
@ChaosSlayer: I PL'd a character yesterday to 95. Fresh character. No magic PL tricks. Yes, you'd need a friend or two to help you out. It doesn't take a year to get max level and 1,000 AA. Autogrant helps, too.
Point still valid, but. the game is EZ mode now. No need for hyperbole or...
My post wasn't an assessment of the dev team or the design decisions about balance, though I suppose it could have been read that way. That wasn't my intention. I find that mercs are balanced fairly well at the end game (though the rogues are lacking compared to the wizards - do you all have the...
Basically, mercs can fill in whatever gaps a group has.
Can't find a melee class with good enough gear? Pop a tank merc. Basically any melee can tank, so it's just a matter of, "Hey can you tank this stuff or do we need a merc?"
Can't find a priest? Pop a merc.
Have all the roles...
This information is nice and all, but plugging in those values won't make any substantive change in EQEmu. The ATK vs AC roll is broken. They don't use a DB+DI model. 2,000 displayed AC on EQEmu functions closer to 800 displayed AC in EQ.
The players had a pretty good approximation of rAC...
The devs at P1999 do a great job. I commend everyone who gives to the EQEmu project - it's a hell of a task to reverse engineer a game like EQ where there are so many unknown unknowns and have it come out to be playable. Those involved with P99 are held to an exacting standard by a rabid fan...
And EQ has become even easier since then. It's not just features and additions to the client (hello, 30 different short term buffs!) - the ancient code has been butchered in order to satisfy the demands of content operating at completely different constraints. EQ is still the same game and the...
They couldn't remove the stupid shit if they tried. Even if they could pull someone on the dev team away from working on content for every other server, at best that person just flags everything out of era and removes it. What's left is still an abomination of the original game - the old code...
1 person = 100% exp.
1 person + 1 merc = 50% exp.
I don't have a dev post to cite, but I believe mercs do not give group exp bonuses, and take an equal share of exp.
I don't know what the exp bonuses these days, but let's assume a 3 person group gives 160% exp and a 6 person group gives...
What I took away from the MMO part is: there are no separate servers. There is one world. One shard (if you know Ultima lore). However, that can get messy with too many people running around at once - so they're doing some intelligent instancing algorithms so you aren't lagged to hell with...
