You have to use the soapstone outside, I guess. I faced plenty of groups when I PvP'd in Belfry for chunks.

I don't mind the Belfry areas. They are short, and if you don't want to face a 1v2 you can summon a sunbro to help you out. If you're undead, just put your own sign down and help someone to be revived.

Belfry Luna zones in invaders 1 by 1. Just take out the first invader asap, most of them are bads. Once you ring the bell, you can run to the fog wall in like 25 seconds and just ignore any invaders.
