I think it should be. Thats what I said a while ago. D2 is a great example of classes making each other stronger, but no specific class makeup is required to play.

Does it count if when I heard about/got UO, I wanted to play a merchant and not do any killing at all?

Yeah, the whole discussion is going in circles and never getting all that deep. Its like trying to do a crossword puzzle without actually writing any words in. We are looking at each word and not really writing anything in, so just looking at the surface and not getting anywhere. Because we are...

I think party members should make each other stronger, not be unplayable without them. Or, a specific class combination at least. I"m not suggesting I should be able to solo a raid boss.

Well, if you want to go through the thread, it has been talked about. Anyway, what you are describing is WoW. Dps that are just dps, or were in early wow, were worthless. fury warriors, balance druids, elemental shaman. Classes with only dps, and no CC. Mages whose defining use was...

He saying, what exactly does this solve or change? It just makes the trinity worse. 3 class roles you have to have to do anything. 4 if dps is considered a part of it and a differant role. Also, pure CC would fill the roll of a tank. They are negating damage. Through stuns, roots, mez, or...

I like badges. But yes, this is one of the good concepts behind rep, coins etc. that Wow tried on various occasions. The RNG can be a pain and really kill the desire to keep playing, especially in a game with limited drop rates. I think raid instances giving 2 items per boss, with up to 10...

Well, I think the huge mitigation variance in WoW is a major design flaw. It really does make more dynamic fights impossible. A hit for 500000 damage on a warrior will be reduced to 10k, and then have a 60% avoidance. That hit on anyone else would actually be a 45k+ hit. that really reduces your...

My first choice would be like that too. A few other thoughts. I think an mmo needs to build for pvp and pve at the same time. I find it mind boggling that WoW penalizes someone that tries do both so much. (talent specs that do not mesh between the two) Just now allowing dual talent specs...

This goes back to my statedment of healing in Teamfortress 2 is fun. Imagine healing in a mmo, especially in a pvp enviroment, where you had a instant cast, channeled spell that you had to stay in 10ft of your target, and it can be channeled while on the move.

Ever play an fps with melee abilites? was getting kited really an issue? Never mind speed bursts, etc that could be added. And if casters can move while casting, casters wouldn"t NEED a ridiculous amount of snares to keep melee off of them so they can cast. Also, when you get rid of pushback...

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

Yeah, I think its called "fun". having to stop to cast is pretty lame. Imagine you had to stop to fire a rocket or rpg in any fps? How annoying that would be? Perhaps an buff/penalty for stopping to cast or not maybe, but all abilities should be able to be used on the move. for example...

You do realize theres a game in Dev for the DS that does exactly that. You draw "ANYTHING", and it creates it in game, and is used as such. Basically, the game has a library, of a great many things. And properties are assigned. A bucket is metal, can hold things, etc. And then actions can...

Are you arguing for or against instances? What is fun about showing up to a dungeon and having to wait an hour for it to respawn? Different or parallel topic. Build non instanced dungeons and world bosses specifically for pvp. PvE-race to finish? PvP-outright kill each other. world...

Warhammer instanced social dungeons were kindof fun. They had one or two of them? Overall dungeon was instanced for entire faction. With 3 paths, and 3 public quests per path with like 3 min resets on the public quests. Then final bosses were instanced again, for parties.

Was a nice constructive conversation for a while there.... haha Grey items. Do you think every npc in the game should reward you with experiance, and monetary reward? And if so, don"t you think its a "neat" feature if the items are relevant to what you are killing? And then, do you...

One of the things in wow beta that sold me on the game, and I thought was cool as hell, was the level 9 mountain lions killing rabbits, etc. The idea of making a fake ecosystem I think is cool. It doesn"t even need to be complex. But I think it would sell the games world if animals behaved...

Grey items are flavor. A very good one as well. Its a cool thing to have spiders drop spiderlegs, instead of gold, like was stated. One of those little things that sell a game"s environment. Yellow text, etc..

Yeah, this is true. And to combine it with the person saying D2 wouldn"t be a good mmo, as the classes are all dps. Are they? and what if they are? Is the zoomancer dps? Charge paladin? Sure all classes do dps. Frankly, have you played a holy priest, paladin in wow? All classes NEED to be...

Yeah. From a comic point of view on this, people over-look this alot. I often hear about how comics are dying, and games are partly the reason. Something I think isn"t true, and is completely missing the point. Time and time again, I"ll hear people talk about the time price paid and compare to...

That does sound interesting. One of the things I miss, or would like to see investigated is the old school UO, or D&D, non-combat oriented characters/skills. Generating quests that are trade skill based, having a stealth based quest for rogues, etc. Things of that nature. I find the idea of...

Actually I consider D2 potentially a huge inspiration and source for a mmo experience. The only thing lacking is the persistent world. One of the largest crafting and trading communities in a game. Larger then most MMOs actually. Great party interaction, and character leveling. Long...

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

The potential is there, but as long as the content itself is designed for the triad, classes will be forced to meet the mold regardless of their design intent. Take wow for instance. Nearly all the classes in wow ARE hybrids really. Warriors can be dps or tanks, etc. Yet warriors are almost...

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

A VERY large part of this is the stupid tank/dps/healer design of nearly all current mmos. Because the archetypes of certain classes are so required, the individual power of each person becomes that much more important. Break that, and it becomes less important. Who cares if the "warrior"...

Yeah. From a gamer point of view. We must not under any circumstances give the impression that getting gamers to pay more for better rewards in game is a good idea. Devs and accountants try to nickle and dime gamers plenty of ways already. How long would it before multi-boxing would be required...

Well, twinking in a pvp game, gives an unfair advantage. There needs to be a semblance of an even playing field. Giving enjoyment to the few "twinks" at the expense of everyone else, isn"t a good design plan. Not that I think twinks shouldn"t exist. Its fun. I just think there should be a way...

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

Yes? Re-playability is the key. Pvp tends to be the easiest way to do it. Look how much time people spend playing the same maps in various FPS"s, or in Diablo doing various loot runs. You don"t need NEW content if the content you have is worth doing over and over. Lets use the WAR tiered...

Green Monster Games - Curt Schilling

He has a point. Content is King. Look at WAR, for a moment. When it first came out people were purposely NOT leveling into t4 because t3 pvp was more enjoyable. Create a game that has real extended content at all levels, and people won"t feel the need to max out to "end game", if end game...

Which I suppose also opens up the discussion of class gear, and any one set of gear being the absolute best. Its just as lame when everyone in the game is all wearing the same set of gear because that one set is clearly better then everything else. Competitive alternate gear/specs within a...

I didn"t take the time to design my characters looks, and get all that gear, to to be stuck in a ridiculous tree, or moonkin all the time. I was a druid. And I was not happy when moonkin and tree were introduced. Looking badass is a huge part of mmos. It"s very counterproductive considering...

Yeah, I"m going to have to agree. Fireball 1-15 is lame. But its also really easy to understand, as well as keep track of upgrades. If theres only 3-4 versions sure you could get away with Fire, Fira, Firaga, or Blaze, Blazemore, Blazemost. One of the weaknesses of a War constant upgrade...

You could have skills and stats! Skills could be like 1-300 and you improve them by using the skill itself. And stats the same. So like chopping down trees with an axe would increase you axe skill, your strength, and your lumberjacking skill. I like levels. Lots of them. My mmo would be...

Bad phrasing I suppose. Because you are describing classes as they are known in every game basically ever when you say jobs then... There are a number of precedents of games with skills, etc being from gear. It makes progression pretty easy to create in a risk/reward. Since loot is directly creating your progress. Alot of people do not like it though. Might be a little to random. no one likes to feel like its their gear that...

Theres several topics having been mentioned. Which is this in reference too? If its the job vs class issue; In wow, you have classes with talents. A class no matter the talent spec has the same skills. A ret paladin and holy paladin have the exact same skills, with only talent based ones...

In a job system game, your job and skills define your character and its role. In a gear based game, you have set roles, and the gear defines how well you do it. If both gear and skill/job level are variable, then you have a very large amount of variables. Thus tuning and balance is hard to...
