Did you play the fixed version? The original release was pretty garbage but the 1.5 version of it cleaned up movement/combat a ton and added some stuff and made it in to a pretty solid B+ kind of thing. If they can grow from that base on this one it could be quite good.

The main diff between swords and axes is if you need to take resolute technique or not. I wasn't able to get anywhere near accuracy cap with axes, so I had to spend 2 points on resolute and dump all my crit. Swords with their implicits may let you forego this, but in general are more expensive.
