Not as well as a healer/tank/utility should be able to DPS, no. DPS is more ubiquitous so all classes should be able to do it at least poorly. DPS classes shouldn't be able to universally heal, tank, CC and debuff.

I remember SWToR getting really good pre-release hype. And the Xbox One suffered more from "MS made some really stupid decisions that they retracted from but will probably try to shift in again" rather than "The xbone is going to be awful". TESO is pretty much unsalvageable at this point.

I second the 'healers doing damage' stuff. In full healing gear with full healing spec if I stopped healing and DPS'd as much as I could I should be able to deal at least 50% the damage of a similarly geared/skilled DPS class. Same goes for tanks.

Yeah. I don't even like the idea of new classes being stuffed into expansions. It makes sense if there's a gap that needs to be filled but I've never seen an xpac class that wasn't just a hybrid of existing types.

Nothing wrong with liking PVP in battlegrounds. In terms of micro-strategy it's always going to be more deep than open world PVP. It's just so repetitive, boring and plain for me.

Big difference is that in vanilla EQ you couldn't get a fiery sword of preening from a level 15 mob. One of the top twink items was a FBSS that gave ~20% haste and was reasonably difficult to get. If you build a world with no instancing and little amount of loot then twinking becomes a lot...
