Stardust isn't as hard to farm to as you think it is. I've spent a bit north of 200k already and have something like 70k in the bank still, and the game is what, less than 2 weeks old? I agree though, blowing 50k+ on a single pokemon is madness.

Yea run it on your computer at home, RDP in to your machine at home to view your neighborhood, walk to where ever and grab what is there. Only restriction really is the map is tied to the geolocation of chromium, so you can't really change the location from your desktop (yet).

Homboldt park was lousy with Pikachus, right by that lake/restaurant thing. I've heard Davis park is where the Charmanders are, but I've yet to confirm it personally. I even stayed in Humboldt park yesterday past dark and didn't get stabbed, nerds are taking back the streets!

Pokemon are certainly bound to some areas. The big park by me is flush with pikachu/evee/poliwhirl, while the other smaller park is where you go for vulpix. I hear stories of charmanders on the college campus north of me, haven't been up there to see for sure yet though.
