I've got about 20 of the yellow daily chests and a few cakes saved up. Do you think opening them during one of the Accidents Happen boosts would boost them?

There's still a pretty decent community I think. It helps that there's just one shared server for dungeons and pve, and the only split comes with PVP. So there may be subservers that are out of whack for PVP due to population balance.

Probably a dumb question, but are there specific artifacts that come from certain boss / zone loot tables, or is it completely random when and from what they drop?

Definitely worth playing. PVP is there, and used to be pretty fun, but no clue what the current state is. Playing through the story stuff is easily worth the price of admission, and you can snag the game for fairly cheap.
