I don't agree with that sentiment. I fully believe that Larian truly wants to create a fantastic 5E game. They're investing plenty of resources into doing so. However, after playing the demo for ~50 hours, I feel it's lacking something that really captures the essence of the first two games...

AAW makes pretty good stuff and this looked cool enough for me to back. It was funded within hours of launching so that's a good sign.

Agreed. Mechanically, I loved DoS: II. And, despite finishing the game, I found much of the story terrible. Obviously, some of the game was really dark, but the slapstick comedy and whimsical tone just aren't for me. DoS: II with a much grittier story (and art direction) with a PF or 5E...
