Never got deep into this game, so much I didn't understand and getting to the end game always seemed like work. That said I would be down to learn and see what's what this time around.

40 seems low but I believe it, hit level 49 last night in chap 8 with 31ish hours played, I did a ton of things got 120K XP then doubled it at the beach resort. Got like 12 levels or something like that.

Or even with R1 you can press and hold triangle and if you have a warp point in sight it will prioritize the point over your target. This game is amazing, put in over 30 hours in 4 days, haven't done that since highschool.
