Wat? Maul's survival has been canon since 2012. He was a recurring villain in Clone Wars when they explored the Nightsisters of Dathomir and one of the main antagonists of Rebels.
I ain't played it yet but it has the worst reviews of the three so far, and they apparently changed directions again and went in more of a Souls-esque direction this time.

There's also no such thing as a non-CGI scene in a movie like this. Everything is touched up/altered somehow, and it's sounding like there's gonna be a major time crunch to be able to get everything smoothed out before release.
