    Star Trek: Starfleet Academy

In DS9 Kira is an unabashed terrorist. She did what she needed to be done. If you were enslaved by the Cardassians and got blown up working in their mines or factories that's what you get for being a collaborator. She planted a bomb in her mother's quarters in the hopes it would kill Dukat...

    Star Trek: Starfleet Academy

Sure, Star Trek was always progressive but it was also even-handed. You present a complex issue and if it's a real world allegory there's enough distance between the real thing and it's simulacrum that the audience doesn't just immediately know what you're up to. You do a bit of work so there's...

Hey, Dan Simmons. I just finished Carrion Comfort last week. A secretive cabal of psychic vampires pull strings behind the scenes. Our main characters are a group of people that had their lives upended from one of the little games these elite like to play. With "The Ability" they can make...

Probably. Although I really did not like Harry Dresden the World's Saddest Wizard the book did stay in my thoughts for a few days after finishing it. That's worth another point. There are plenty of books that I have read that have stirred not a single extra moment of additional reflection...

Finished it up. It takes a turn in tone and structure back to the familiar once and that turn is firmly cemented once From there on out it forms a very decent entry to the series. Rated against all the others I'd be willing to put it in the upper half. Harry does still get sad a couple more...

He's getting his shit together as it goes along but we're still a long way away from the wizard that battled one of the darkest horrors of faerie in the heart of Arctus Tor, bested it and shouted to all the monsters closing in "WHO'S NEXT" Harry Dresden Has a Sad is just a big part of this book...

I'm not fatigued. Dresden is clinically depressed. We're inside his head so we get to hear all his self-loathing first hand. One character after another has a scene where they tell him he doesn't deserve what he's doing to himself. Given the author's battle with depression including a suicide...

Voyager's ratings were low enough that the local affiliate stopped airing them. Two or three seasons in the show just went away. The show eventually came back (and with a marathon to catch everyone up) but putting another Star Trek series on the network could not have been a good idea.
