You need to stick around in town long enough to advance some of the quests to a point where the advancement is dealt with by going out. If you don't do that I don't see how you won't be so under leveled you'll just die to all the encounters. And honestly the first zone is far more streamlined...

3 Stalker rush is actually "a thing" TvP. It punishes people who get a reaper then reactor marines but fail to scout the stalker count or try to cut the bunker. It is a fairly easy pressure to outright lose against. I wouldn't say I see it often but it isn't too rare.
