There is one thing that everyone in this thread agrees on. Their kids loved it. I'm pretty sure that's what Disney wanted. They probably even asked Rian Johnson to write a script for kids, not for adults. You hook the kids and the parents have to go see it anyway AND you sell more toys.

Let's talk about some of the really great scenes from the movie. One that gave me that warm, fuzzy feeling and really put me in the Christmas spirit was Finn exclaiming that he had no regrets.... about freeing the alien race horses.

You're already asking for spoilers. The show isn't all that far-fetched or full of plot armor as your initial thoughts may lead you to believe. There are some details that are a bit silly for the sake of the story but it's not Walking Dead levels of stupid. Not even close.
