Show is excellent, but Syfy fucked up releasing it as they did. The marketing was pretty meh and they dumped it onto the network at a bad time of year. It will take some serious word of mouth to help it out ratings wise for season 2.

Given the fact it is on Syfy, I would be shocked if it gets more than 2-3 seasons, even if it is one of the best things they have put out in years.

I think some of the "rush" was the fact they wanted to make it clear they weren't just "Harry Potter...but edgier!". It seemed like they went out of their way to try to shatter some tropes associated with the Potter book series (no destiny, you aren't a special chosen one with ultimate power, etc).
