I think Synology makes quality products and are priced better than their competitors. That said, both those units are expensive for nothing more than a low powered PC with drive expansion. My setup is Xpenology on a Thinkcentre M82, a 4bay hotswap (4x2.5" in a 5.25" drive bay), and 2...

I love my Logitech G15 (v2), going on 8 years now and I just can't seem to give it up but finding it's starting to show its age and use. I am on the hunt for it's replacement. My criteria is kinda simple but with one caveat, I want it back lit, non-mechanical, and have volume and media...

This sounds more like a power saving feature, you should look to see if your nic is set to auto power down or maybe your extender has a power saving feature. Also if you are extending your wifi to the extender AC doesn't travel well through floors and wall, if you're just surfing might want to...

    Docker and You

As I have mentioned in other threads I'm currently running Xpenology with Docker. I have never played with docker before so I'm still trying to get my Windows brain wrapped around it. Having some challenges getting Observium working in docker, this is the zuhkov/observium variant. I have tried...

I could be biased but but Ubiquiti does home/small business routers the best, Edgerouters are full featured, powerful and cheap (can be had for 50 bucks)

    Routers & Other Networking Stuff

I installed docker on my synology/xpenology NAS, with it I installed UNMS for it and all seems to be working well except when I try to add my Edgerouter. It can find it if I plug in my local subnet (192.168...) but when adding it to UNMS it fails. I see docker does some sort of NATing I think...

OpenDNS is what I use for filtering, 1 subnet is free per account. It works well. Definitely for those of us who have to pay for hydro, among other expenses low power solutions are the way to go.

Google+ is going away, pick a different option. If you have a NAS you can sync to it from anywhere. Depending on your usage requirements it may be more economical over a cloud offering as well.
