If you're hurting for runes/levels, this is some seriously easy cheese.

I must have spent too much time doing side stuff and upgrading my weapons, I one-shot both Margit and Godrick, killed them both so fast neither one went into phase two. Using the tree sentinel guys axe at +5.

Also once you activate like 4-5 sites of lost grace or whatever (bonfires) you'll unlock the ability to level up.
