Just realized that if you go to Special Collections and go to your spec you can get an ascended weapon for your class. I worked on this a few hours Sunday, should save me a lot of gold since I won't have to craft one. Can put that towards armor now.

Highest light level is all that matters while leveling. Hang on to any purples/exotics that you really like. You can lock them by pressing the "Shift" key when highlighted so you don't accidentally delete them. Later on you can infuse them to get them back up to your light level.

Keep in mind that a lot of mastery points can be gained from achievements, not just map clearing and map points. Grim's advice is sound, I would just play and have fun and let them come naturally and maybe farm one MP a day. That way it won't be so overwhelming. Is Silverwastes still the best...
